Just viewed this film yesterday. It's much like a Latvian version of 'Hoosiers'. The story line was a little obvious and the acting was trite in spots but the true story is interesting, nonetheless. The game scenes were riveting in spite of the difficulty of reading subtitles while keeping your eyes glued to the action and I found the movie's ending quite stirring.
I agree, pretty much. I thought the film had a weak start, the game at the beginning goes on too long and it's difficult to care because we haven't been introduced to the characters yet and (as non-Latvians) have no understanding of the rivalry between the two teams, ASK and US or whatever it was. Once they got on the train, that's when the movie really got going. It seemed ridiculous though that everyone in Geneva spoke Latvian!
I haven't seen the 300 movie, but I will say that in general I think it is more ridiculous to have a movie where people travel all around Europe and everyone speaks the same language, as opposed to a movie set in one place where the actors all speak the same language.
