Who Brought the Charges?

On the bigamist episode (which I only watched because of Michael Imperioli, who has had really bad luck with series after The Sopranos ended), they never explained who filed the complaint against him. What surprised me is that Sister Wives, which is about a man and his four wives, has been on TLC for years and My Five Wives, about another polygamist, is starting next month. Why was it even prosecuted? If he paid his taxes and took care of his wives and children, it would be a sin against the church but not necessarily a crime against the state. While I don't approve, I do understand how he felt. If you can love all your children equally, you could also love two (or three) women equally as well. More harm was done by arresting him and sending him to prison (or whatever the outcome was) than would have been done by leaving him and his families alone.

His second wife had an uncle who was a supreme court judge. She had been worried he was seeing another woman and hired a Private Investigator to look into it.
