Californication wouldn't have worked on network TV either

I'm disappointed to see Rake may be canceled. I find the show quite entertaining.

I'm sure people have mentioned the similarity to Californication, a show I love. But I don't think C. would have made it on network TV, and I think Rake is having the same difficulty. Rake wants to be raunchy, and can't.

Hank Moody and Keegan Dean are quite different characters, but I think the appeal is the same. I would have liked to see Keegan a little more endearing, so that you really want to root for him to succeed.

Also I don't know many shows where gambling addicts who ruin their lives from it are sympathetic to audiences. Just an observation.

But overall it's well-written and sharply acted. It's a shame that it won't be around. I hate networks. I can't count how many times Fox and FX and have gotten me into a show that they pulled after only 1 or less than 1 season.

Will I never learn my lesson?

What you want is in the AU version, trust me. Think Rumpole on crack!

Finally got around to watching this. This show would have been much much better on cable. I cannot remember a show that needed a more adult tone. This should have never been on network TV

I understand the original is more adult and look forward to watching it.

Every time this show was about to go raunchy, where it belonged, it had to play it too toned down. And it just felt incomplete

Not a bad show but just didn't work well watered down. Really hope the original goes where it needs to.
