Saw the AU version now that it's cancelled.

It had a different less light-hearted feel to it. It was arguably better but I also liked this version. I don't see why both couldn't have co-existed.

I don't get the sanctimoniousness hatred of this version just because another one exists. People seem to have weird sense of entitlement.

I don't think I ever said that I didn't enjoy the Kinnear version, but given the storyline, it would have been like watching a PG version of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or The Sopranos on the Christian Broadcasting Network.

Or imagine Misfits or Utopia or The Almighty Johnson's done in America just would not work, America is too prudish.

America is too prudish.

Pornography being a multi-billion-dollar industry in the US says otherwise.

Blame the FCC nazis.

Originality needs a reboot.

Watching porn proves nothing.

my erection proves everything, but don't take my word for it

Excessive consumption of bad porn IS a symptom of prudishness - it works the same in the repressed Japan. More sexually relaxed societies, such as Scandinavia and the Netherlands consume comparatively little porn, and Sweden is famous for the production of fairly artistic feminist porn.

Honestly I haven't been as interested to watch the Australian version as I normally would with a copycat series.

The reason? I watched the first episode of the Australian version and just really missed Greg Kinnear. His acting was just perfect for this character.

If i go watch the Australian version again it will be in part to learn about the culture. So many different ways of doing things down there: Brothel houses, Wigs in court. etc...

I think this is case of which ever you see first sets the tone for what expect from the series. If you see the American version first the other seems a bit too studgy. Reversed Keegan seems too frivolous a character. And many seem upset about the few moments of nakedness they are missing per episode in America.

Yes! They are different actors. Who can expect them to be the same?

Greg Kinnear has always done very good work over the years, wouldn't it have been better, if he had been in an original show?

reply

What people want is some originally for the big bucks Hollywood pay's itself.

The AU version ruled!

Message on the Rake AU board suggests there might be an s04.

Being a fan of the original AU show, I was not a fan of seeing an American network remake another show because it sucks at being creative and making something new on their own.

AU one was edgier and pushed the boundaries a little more, this one was a neutered version of it, no thanks.

I would advise everyone to locate and watch the AU version of "Upper Middle Bogan" because it is an excellent series (2x8x30min) which is has a pretty universal culture-clash storyline which tells me that Hollywood will pick it up for a remake.

Nooooo!!!!!! How would this even work over there when the US has no bogans??? They're a uniquely, quintessentially Aussie social class! White trash is NOT the equivalent!!
