Compared to the Beatles....

...The Beatles first album was released in 1963. By 1965 they had released- 'Yesterday' and the album- 'Rubber Soul' containg such songs as -'In My Life'- 'Girl' Michelle' 'Drive My Car' 'Nowhere Man'# and 'Norwegian Wood'. If One direction want to be the next Beatles they had better get cracking because their first album was in 2011, so by following the same time frame, they should have released 'Yesterday' and 'Rubber Soul' by LAST YEAR. But, they are nowhere near. So far....

Well, 1D is a pre-fab group. The Beatles self-assembled and were driven by talent. They chose their own direction and were willing to grow and change.

1D is being run by management, directors , coaches, and agents, etc.

The Beatles had their inspiration rooted in Buddy Holly, Elvis, Chuck Berry, great soul artists, even Phil Spector and girl groups of the time and more.

1D is influenced by other current pop tripe.

When Harry and group first sang in the talent show, they could hardly carry a tune. They were hired and trained to sing.

While no one could argue that the Beatles were Placido Domingo, they sang from the heart and weren't autotuned.

So, we'll see who has lasting influence.

I like them well enough, but it's apples and oranges.

I stumbled onto this documentary/movie by accident a few days ago on HBO then came here to check. Growing up a Beatles fan since childhood I find the comparison somewhat ridiculous. The Fab Four became the most famous musical phenomenon on earth within just a few years and are often cited as one of the most influential bands since the beginning of rock and roll, constantly re-inventing themselves and shaping popular cultural on a global scale. Their catalogue contains dozens of instantly recognisable classics that are just as appealing decades later, and they wrote/created most of them based on raw talent.

Meanwhile I had never even heard of "One Direction" until recently, but then I'm not a goofy 12 year old girl. Wait a few years, they'll be mostly forgotten just like all the other contrived autotuned prettyboy acts. The Beatle's music and legacy will live on for centuries.
