The biggest reason people hate One Direction is....

YOU. YOU THERE, READING THIS, YES YOU. Are you a fan of them? Do you think people who hate them are jealous because they "get all the girls?" Do you think they are the next Beatles? Do you think they're good because Simon Cowell said so? Do you think people who dare critically analyze their music are "haterz" and should kill themselves? Do you honestly think you are going to marry one of them? Well get ready to get blown away. Because the Number one reason people hate One Direction is...

YOU. AND EVERYBODY LIKE YOU. YOU GUYS MAKE THEM 100x WORSE. IF THEIR FANS DIDN'T EXIST, THEY'D ACTUALLY BE HALFWAY TOLERABLE.

And you are already posting a hate comment. You probably didn't even read my post, you just read the subject and are already leaving a comment. You are probably just proving my point. So thank you for that.

reply

Calm down? I'm a fan of One Direction and I don't care if you don't like them as long as you don't post verbally abusive comments about them. I'm not saying you did, but a lot of people on this board have.

reply

Okay wow. Calm the *beep* down. I am a fan of one direction. no, i'm not crazy and obsessive like you make us out to be. Wtf? They saved my life. Just seeing a picture of them or listening to their music makes me happy. The boys have gotten me through a lot. So gtfo and stop making us out to be crazed fans.

reply

One Direction "saved your life?" Wow. That's pathetic. One Direction does not care about you, nor anybody else. They don't see you as "A beautiful girl who shouldn't be lonely" or all that bull crap. They see you as an ATM machine. The only reason they are at where they are at is because of the producers and the labels. The Record Labels saw they could make crap loads of money by having men who girls find attractive sing sappy swoony love songs so 13 year olds would wet themselves and buy it. They are not singing those songs to you.

You claim you are not a "crazy and obsessive fangirl" yet you claim they saved your life. Unless Harry or whatever the cuss word their names are jumped off a bridge to save you a la It's a Wonderful Life, they did not "save your life," so I'd hate to see your definition of what makes somebody crazy and obsessed.

The reason I make the claims about the record labels is because that's how music today works. The majority of it, 1D especially, is targeted towards a very limited audience. In this case, they discovered they would make more money if they targeted it towards the most impressionable people in the world, pre-teen girls.

Compare One Direction or an other boy band like that, to, say, Classical Music. Any classical composer will do. In the heyday of Classical (1700's-early 1900's, which BTW is a very large amount of time, much larger than One Directions span of popularity) it was liked by EVERYBODY, not just a certain demographic. Classical was appreciated by children, pre-teens, young adults, middle aged and elderly alike. Jazz was the same way.

So you already know I'm not one of those people who say "1D is GAAAAAAAY, IF IT'S NOT METAL IT SUCKS." Yes, I like metal. But there is some really crappy metal out there, and their are better comparisons to prove my point.

reply

How can you call something saving someone's life "pathetic"? That is the most disgusting thing I've ever read.

You aren't the boys, you don't know what they think or feel, so don't speak for them like you know everything.

reply

Do you think people who dare critically analyze their music are "haterz" and should kill themselves?

That's the thing, to critically analyse their music, you'd have to actually listen to their music - as in all three albums.

People who 'analyse' their music have mostly only heard the singles they've released. They haven't taken the time to actually listen to their music before they judge, and that's what's annoying. The people with the biggest and most insulting opinions on them, know the very least about them, and label anyone that does like them as 'pathetic teenagers', not realising how pathetic they sound themselves.

This moment. We own it.

reply

What makes you think I haven't listened to their other songs? What if I told you that a good chunk of their music is ripped off from other bands? They are blatantly guilty of plagiarism.

They have Plagiarized The Who, Def Leppard, The Clash, and others, and for some reason have been able to escape getting sued. Do some research.

reply

Tell me, how can music save somebodies life? Were they listening to 1D on their ipod, fell off a cliff, and their headphones caught on a branch and saved them?

I can speak for how they feel, I am familiar with the way the mainstream music industry works, and it is apparent you are not. You and many others use justification like "Simon Cowell said they're good!" Simon Cowell doesn't judge talent. He judges marketability. You would never see a jazz band, a metal band, an instrumental band, or a group of Tuvan throat singers win American Idol/X-factor, no matter HOW good they are. Those people aren't marketable. Why do you think Justin Bieber got so popular? There are thousands of musicians on Youtube out their, and most of them have a lot more talent than Beaver. Bieber is marketable, they are not. It's as simple as that.

It's the same reason you rarely see fat and ugly actors, actresses, singers, etc.

reply

You cannot speak for the feelings of another human being no matter how much you think you know about the music industry, get over yourself.

reply

Out of all the One Direction haters I've come across you are by far the most arrogant.

reply

Oh sarcasm, why do I even attempt it over the internet? It is always lost in the translation.

I'm not arrogant, I just have an understanding of why popular music is the way it is.

Up until the 1950's, the music industry was controlled by ginormous corporate companies who controlled what kind of music was made. The Beatles were rejected multiple times by these big companies.

But then people figured out they could join indie music labels (that's independent, if you didn't know) and the artists could have all the creativity they want. This lasted up until the 90's, when the big budget corporations realized they could just buy up the small indie record labels and maintain their control and make more money.

To my knowledge, 3 companies own all the vast majority of the music you listen to. Warner MG, Sony MG, and Universal MG. They own about 70% of the music in the ENTIRE WORLD.

reply

Oh, give me a break.
EVERYONE plagiarizes EVERYONE.
They haven't been sued because suing for a guitar rift sounding similar to someone elses is ridiculous.

If each of them wrote their own songs and made their own melodies, you'd still complain about how non talented they are because they were manufactured. Let's be honest, they can't win.

I agree with you about the teenage girls making people dislike them more, but those boys work their butts off, whether it's for the fame, money or the fans, and they're appreciated for it.

We all know why popular music is the way it is. One Direction have never claimed to be anything they're not. They don't go around claiming they write all their albums, and have got where they are off pure talent alone - they know as well as the fans and the management, that nowadays you have to have the full package.. and it's the interviews, live performances, concerts, meet and greets, charity work, and the boys not being actual douche bags to people they meet, that have got them to where they are today.

Simple as.

This moment. We own it.

reply

Everyone plagiarizes everyone? What kind of ignorant statement is that? You obviously don't listen to much diversity in music whatsoever. Go tell Billy Joel that he plagiarized somebody. Go tell Ian Anderson that. Go tel John Petrucci that. Sure, Maybe everybody in POP MUSIC plagiarizes everybody, I will give you that, because pop music uses the same four chords in every song (usually A, B, D flat, and E) There are so many chord combination people could use, but they just DONT.

reply

Great posting Eric. However, it seems to me that you can't get through to these idiots. There's a clue to their intelligence levels in the very fact that they defend this rubbish. You're dealing with monumental degrees of stupidity here, and that's just from the few little sheep who've responded to you in this thread alone. Just laugh and pity their delusion.

reply

Yes, that's the way it works. They don't play their own instruments, all they do is dance. Reminds me of "Milli Vanilli" who was exposed as frauds, because the two attractive singers posing as MV were lip syncing, and the real singers were too ugly to sell records.

reply

One Direction "saved your life?" Wow. That's pathetic.

I don't think it is. I can see how someone you don't know, even people you've never met, can give you hope, make you laugh, prove that there are good people out there, make you feel less alone or just simply bring a smile to your lips. Sometimes that's enough to save a life, literally or not. No band ever saved my life, but listening to Metallica when I'm sad or angry (or if it's Tuesday) always helps, and Nancy Sinatra has brightened a whole lotta days for me.

Dozens of times, lots of different ways. Every night, I save you.

Jazz was not the same way, and likely classical wasn't either though the concept of marketing to a demographic was quite different. For the most part composers were composing for aristocrats: people who would actually be able to attend a performance. They were still catering to specific tastes, contrary to your claim. Jazz was quite different from what you suggest. It was initially limited to the black community and then a young white audience. Older people couldn't stand it. So, you're simply just wrong.

In any case, most of 1D's songs don't even make sense; they're just a collection of lines that rhyme and fir the rhythm of the song. Their appeal is clearly the catchy pop beat coupled with the carefully cultivated, "cool guy" teen appearance of the guys. Someone should send them some combs. Someone else should get them some music lessons so that they could actually be a band, not simply five singers--not that that would ever happen.

reply

They're mainly disliked because of their messed up fans, but you can always tell who the messed up ones are as they make up their own nicknames for themselves.

reply

Here's the big thing I despise about the 1D fans, they exist period.

I remember when Radiohead fans were all dramatic and emo and would get defensive like little girls about their idols whenever chit hit the fan. Now? Someone disses Radiohead and the fans hear it they mostly ignore it, and or worst thing is they tell those people to go ph uck themselves. I miss those days, wasn't too long ago also.

The problem with this "band" and their fans are the fact that they are rabid sheep that come in hordes, sending hate to whoever disagrees, flat out hates their music and gives examples as to why they are bad, not worshiping twinky singing voices and the fact that they are so "nice" to their fans and they all love them equally and would totally and completely, omfg have sex with all of them.

Problem, they are the fairytale the music marketers often cook up and you moron stampede all bought into the hype, because that's all it is, hype, and watered down pop music. What's popular isn't what's great in quality. The fans aren't diverse if they believe they are the best band in the world. Don't even get me started on why people call them a band.

Arguing reason, common sense, industry facts won't change their close-minded music ph uck e r y. It's too late. All the rest of us can hope for is the fuel in the steam train of suck runs out quick. Nobody is realistically taking them seriously. Not even if they try to be indie with their last album which was no doubt pinned to make it look as if they have talent but really, it's all a facade. And you bought into it when you could have saved it for college or an apartment.

That is such a lie: "they never claimed to write any of their songs" Two of the boys (the gayest looking one and the Irish one, I don't know their names by heart like you hormonally obsessed tweens) admitted they wrote 70% of the last record.

This band and their fans with luck and time will disappear and be replaced by another self-indulgent marketing machine. And yeah, the band wouldn't be this annoyingly repulsive without the straightjacket fans fawning over everything they say, do and how they look.

Everybody is entitled to my opinion.

reply

Their popularity is waning. It's about time anyway, they've had three years. Besides, all this fame is gone to their heads, what with the nasty tattoos, and the unwashed look (I guess that's supposed to be a turn on). They think they're music is going more hard rock.

reply

People are jealous about one direction. Everyboy loves its music but they don't want young kids to have fun and make good money and be with cute girls. It's my dream come true so I love them and am happy for them and everybody who can make their dream come true.

Im loving every second, minute, hour, bigger, better, stronger, power...

reply

Reading the posts on these boards it is clear that the only obsessive ones are the haters. The absolute vile and nonsense that they type is immature and unnecessary. The one direction fans who are probably young girls show a lot more maturity and self restraint than the haters. Dont you have anything better to do than criticise peoples taste in music and abuse a bunch of young boys who are living their dream. Accept the fact that we
all have different tastes in music and not everybody has to like what you do.

reply

Their youngest fans have more maturity?? Are you freakin kidding me??! LOL.
So then why do the young "mature" fans send death threats to girls who get even near them? Actually I think the majority of the crazy fans are the younger ones who just can't bear the thought that just maybe they're not the greatest band in the world or that they will never date or marry them. And I don't think it's fair to say that ALL of the younger fans are crazy because that wouldn't be true but it seems like the majority of them are completely rabid and just plain scary at times. Just go look on twitter and you'll see for yourself. It's mostly the older fans that aren't so defensive and vile.

reply

If you really think hormonal teenagers today aren't rude, pathetic tards then you clearly have not been to a high school. Not everything in life has to be liked and obsessed over. People are allowed to hate and like things. But hey, the maturity really runs in track records. I don't know anybody who truly hates this group to send death threats to any of their mesiah followers. It's always the fans doing it. No wonder they have such a terrible rep. If we don't like their music we just state our opinions and then get trashed in the process. That's true immaturity at it's finest. Case in point, the charity game where the gay one in the group fell down and threw up because the player on the opposite team chucked him in a friendly sportsman tackle. Yep, that player got sent death threats galore.

You have a lot of love for him.
Don't use words I don't understand.
