great film- one of the best action films as of late

not sure why such a low rating

Me neither, it was very enjoyable. But it was a bit too long.

I thought it was pretty good myself. It looked good and the acting was good. It held my interest. I don't know why it is getting knocked like it is.

... agreed.

Some people will hate it—probably without ever seeing it—simply because they hate Sean Penn's politics, but I don't know why a pretty good action-thriller that holds the viewer's attention and provides respectable entertainment value is being treated like some embarrassment.

That's such a ridiculous reason to hate the film. Sean Penn was one of the best things about it. People should enjoy a film for being a film, nothing else.

There's no account for bad taste. You're welcome to your opinion.

The action sucked. The gunfights were predictable shootouts. No tension to them.

Same goes for the fist fights. They cut every time a blow lands. Sucks all the impact out of the fight. Typical editing trick to film a fight quickly instead of doing longer takes that require more practice.

Pierre Morel is obviously capable of making best-in-class action movies (see District B13 and Taken) but I think the production was rushed on this one (and Sean Penn doctored the script to his liking).
