Was the Nick/Maria story true?
Loved this movie. There was so much going on that we didn't see, I found it really interesting having done some research on Escobar. And it was all spot on, apart from the love story between Nick and Maria, nick's family, or basically anything to do with Nick.
I've never heard of a Canadian being involved with Pablo.
I do know that Los Pepes - a left wing terrorist group - was taking out Escobar's family and business associates. Was this movie just using artistic license? Because with somebody like Escobar, I wouldn't have thought they needed to fabricate any love story, which I'm not entirely sure it was.
Absolutely brilliant movie. It seems to be in keeping with Escobar's life, although I'm not sure whether they compressed it down a bit.
I do know that he came and went from that "prison" as he pleased, he was literally in there as a show of force by the Colombian government. When he'd had enough, he left.
The books I've read and the documentaries I've seen never mentioned diamonds or a Canadian, they did paint a very real picture of the cartel boss though. He always seems to be romanticised, but he did some really terrible things to get to where he was.
Still, can't help but love him.
