Really Hated This Movie. VERY Disrespectful, Poorly Paced & Bad Writing

I really hated this movie. It’s the definition of disrespectful as well as being a poorly paced and poorly written mess.

It portrays military personnel as limited thinking, trapped victims at best and complete tools at worst. There is no subtlety to its anti Iraq War stance.

Every single character on screen that’s not the Billy Lynn or Vin Diesel’s Shroom is an annoying douchebag. That’s not an exaggeration. From his fellow troops to ALL the supporting characters, they are ALL aggravating and irritating. This isn’t just an awkward sledge hammer anti Iraq War movie but it’s an unintentionally anti humanity movie. I wanted to punch nearly every character in the face and that includes Kristen Stewart’s sister character, Chris Tucker’s agent character and Steve Martin’s Jerry Jones character. What a waste of a great cast.

Was there even a budget for this crap? It’s no wonder the NFL nor the military itself would give them any support when making this thing. The fake Dallas Cowboys football team that was depicted was laughably bad.

I literally thought of walking out on this thing multiple times as the storytelling jump cut through time and dragged at every turn. Somehow, I managed to stay in my seat until he made his decision whether he would go with his sister or stay with his military brothers. Even before that scene was over I was heading to the exit. I just couldn’t take any more of the nonsense. The unintentional disrespect to the military, the three hour instant love story with a cheerleader, the stage crew attacking “heroes” because they wouldn’t leave the stage fast enough then assaulting them later, the “everyone in Texas is a sleazeball tycoon” stereotype, etc.

Ang Lee should be ashamed of himself for making a movie this bad.

Four weeks left in the year and this is still the worst movie that I've seen in 2016.

Right about Doctor Strange and right about this terrible movie.

The movie was based upon a novel - and it seems that you object to plot features and scenes that are in the novel, as well as the movie. The novel and movie are intended to be satire - so they are not intended to be a literal representation of reality.

The novel and the movie both show very well the differences in how the soldiers view the war, and their roles in it, and how the public views the war and the men and women who actually do the fighting. It also shows the personal conflict of a young man who feels torn between the various responsibilities he is confronting as he grows up and finds his place in a dangerous and often absurd world. Not an easy film to experience, but a very good one for viewers willing to think seriously about the themes and issues presented.

I think the movie was pretty good.

US Marines in general, are civilian 18-19 year old kids, brainwashed, trained to think they are some kind of elite, dressed in combat gear and sent off to war.

Loads of the kids signing up for duty are from poor social groups, there is nothing else. There are few to no preparations or training on how to deal with battle-stress. Requiters tempt with bonuses and "career-opportunities" to get youth to sign up for a contract that binds them to be shipped off to anywhere for a certain period of time.

And for psych-screening? Seems to be none-existent, you would sign-up and ship-off any idiot that is willing, the average quality and intelligence-level isn't impressive at all.

Most green US Marines are annoying and aggravating, they think they are hot-shots and "elite". In reality they are nothing but trained civilians at that point, they are "regular army greenhorns" with little or no discipline (cannon-fodder doesn't need much really, other than the ability to take orders and to execute those orders).

Heck, conscripts in my own country have tossed the US Marines out to the sea, every year, for decades during winter-war exercises, so the ego of the "legendary" US Marines is certainly bigger than their actual abilities.

The war in Iraq was a failure from the get-go, there is no question about it, it's now a failed state, spewing out terror all over the world. The world tried to protest in 2003 against the invasion, but you all stood behind your crown-idiot-of-the-millennium president, G.W.Bush and let him do it and you even re-elected the illiterate retard, shame on you.

It's a lot of the same thing regarding 9/11 and Pearl Harbor, you piss and moan about it, as you were innocent.
I've seen countless shows dealing with those tragedies and not a single one of them tries to find the reason why it actually happened. You conclude that "they" hate your freedom and way of life and whatnot and mourn your death to a sickening point.

The truth is, that you need to realize that Japan attacked pearl-harbor because of necessity (you were using sanctions and boycotts to hurt the Japanese economy and trade) and 9/11 was an answer to the old US politics in the middle-east, costing hundreds of thousands of lives over decades. In that respect, 9/11 was not only a pretty well-executed operation, it was also coming your way for a long time, but you were unable to see if, because Americans in general don't know diddly squat about the world.

You have more of the same coming your way, the US has been fiddling and killing civilians for 70 years now, all over the world. Most of south-America hold a pretty narly grudge, most of the middle east too, Europe is fed up with your foreign policy police role, Russia is not taking any more crap and Asia? Who knows, more and more countries are looking to China as a partner there, way to go with your frigging battle-groups, enforcing US-will to people who don't want it.

You should pay attention to what your government is doing, and has been doing for 70 years, you are only 5% of the world population after all, and it will explain a lot of the resentment you may experience when you flaunt your star-spangled-banner outside your own borders.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, and YES! So sick of my country, the U.S., sticking their nose into everybody else's business for no good reason other than oil or "winning." The U.S. is a failing country due to its leaders' bad decisions and people who think that shoving democracy down people's throats that don't want it is a good thing. NOW, we have this idiot in the White House, surrounding himself with more idiots, and to top it off, a mostly idiot Congress that couldn't care less about the people they're supposed to be representing. Trump has already pissed off Mexico, put immigrants and refugees in danger, and turned the clock back to at least the 1960s. Maybe next week, he'll start a pissing match with Canada. Another 9,11, only worse, is on its way and no one seems to see that except people outside the country. It is a sh!tshow, just like it's been for years.

They are. They are litterally meat. If you engage yourself in the military abroad meaning invading, killing citizen and looting resources while destroying a whole country, you chose and deserve to die period.

No pity, no mercy.
