Box office was $16,971. What happened?

Was it that bad? Or was it the marketing?

reply

Alice Eve did a good job in the movie and acting wise Bryan Cranston did okay as well but his accent was distracting and just generally bad.

reply

It was just a bad movie. SUPER cheap and horrible screenwriting. The acting was OK.

reply

just saw it. alice eve was good.

without the accent and a few script fixes, it could have made $30 million and been a decent movie.

reply

Certainly a bit of both.

reply

I saw it and while I enjoy Bryan Cranston, I wouldn't of paid $11 to see this movie. I doubt I would even buy it on the DVD. This is the movie that will be shown in a year on your TV.

reply

The reason the box office was only $16,871 was because it had a limited release of 21 theaters, and it was only in theaters for a week.

True, but usually if a indie film does well, it'll open in many more theaters.

This seemed to be done before it even started.

Marketing.

They could have at least advertised this to the Breaking Bad crowd and at least made it's budget.

Even with better marketing, most indie movies don't do well. I don't think ALice and Bryan are worried about it, though.

I thought it was good, not great. But more of a TV movie than a feature film. I wasn't bored. The accent wasn't necessary nor was the need to have Bryan's character to be Russian.

reply

Agreed even though I still think 5.7 is a tad low especially with garbage like Ted with ratings in the 7's.

But still, most of the problems with this film is within the script. It just doesn't take the narrative far enough.

I'd still give it at least a 7.0/10 mainly because I've seen way worse, including Winter's Bone which I still can't believe actually got a best picture nom.

I figured the accent was just a wriggle to try and prevent/ break type; I mean I did not watch 5 seconds of Breaking Bad but instantly knew (only) that he was the Breaking Bad actor.

The movie, itself, though, was breathtaking. Alice Eve is a major star as will be the little girl if she continues. Cranston was good apart from the accent and the cop was as unhinged and menacing as you'd hope.

I gave it a nine and was shocked to find it at 5.7 on IMDb, here. For, at least, a couple of years, though, here, on this site, if a movie does not have transforming robotic superhero wizards then it struggles to show accurately positive scores. What a mess.

reply

Must have been marketing.

reply

Agreed, Jockey.

I loved it.

reply

I had never even heard about this movie till I checked out Cranston's IMBD page.

I'm going to go with lack of marketing/distribution for the incredibly low box office. Then again, it's possible that the reason the movie didn't get wide release/distribution is because it just wasn't very good.

This is kind of a chicken/egg arguement.

Watching it today, I rated it 5 stars. It started out an 8, but the ending was very bad to me. Who in their right mind keeps my money?

And what fresh Hell is this?, Malory from Archer(Dorothy Parker)
