Dissapointing ending

Honest hour: we all have someone in the family who is stuck in the old ways, maybe this person is racist or prejudiced against some kind of people, maybe they are strong supporters of tradition, maybe they just believe that world is going down the drains, maybe all of the above. We are not proud of it, but hey, it is family.
Dracula's father was so oldschool that he considered his son to be modern and dangerously edgy, he lived in a cave for pete's sake! And yet of course in less then 10 minutes he overcome HUNDREDS OF YEARS of habit and worldview, because hey, kid is nice.
Imagine a racist, I don't mean "microagression new type racist" Imagine someone who was so racist that even in XIX century people keep telling him that maybe he is going a bit too far... this man visit his son, and then he discoveres... that his granddaughter is married to a mexican, or black person, how do you think it would unfold?
I expected Drac to have an arc, to stop being affraid of his father and stand up for his daughter choices, that would have been great conclusion, the "happily ever after" not so much

reply

Well...this is a kids movie so 'happily ever after' is practicly a must.

But I agree that Vlad changed his entire persona in 5 mins.

P.S. Wasn't the character of count Dracula inspired by Vlad the Impaler?

reply

The whole movie didn't quite work considering the charm of the first one.

Sometimes soething like about to have your family torn apart or a family member nearly die is enough to cause a revelation.

reply

While I agree it's probably over-thinking the family movie cliche of 'happily ever after' was thinking perhaps; Dracs Father was already reconsidering his stance beforehand.

I really think he had become bored, lonely and regretful of the choices he made that clearly cut him off from family and friends, and left him alone in a dank cave surrounded by creatures.

Riddle wrapped inside an enigma, wrapped inside a taco.

reply

It is pretty bizarre and shoved in at the last minute. Dracula's relationship with his father could have been the plot of an entire movie.
