Beautiful Movie

Indeed a beautiful movie in pace and exploration of characters and
"their side of the story". It is hard to watch at times, but
nevertheless a must see. Ed Harris did a great job.

Yes, and a western also . . . .

I very much agree with you, and I wondered at its really moderate rating for such actors as Harris and Madigan, and a solid performance by Pena as well. The scene that just went right to my heart was when Harris was walking his wife's horse home and he just goes to his knees for some moments then forces himself back up to go on. I thought it was a great film but so-called illegal immigrants (usually only meaning those from south of the created border) is a hot topic in the US, which is extremely ironic considering that unless they are indigenous, which many Mexicans are partly, unlike European American descendants.

I really think such issues contributed to the lower ratings, whether some people thought it was "too tame", making some of the immigrants too human and likeable, or conversely without any morals. On the other hand, you have the apathy of European Americans and the underlying prejudice or a basic kind of hypocrisy. The filmmakers couldn't present everything about the ongoing problem, they just did this story and included some known factors that you can see in headlines everyday.

The performances made it outstanding if not an original subject. Very much underrated and overlooked.

agreed, a beautiful film that is being underrated for political reasons, and likely by people who haven't even seen it.

while i'm sure a majority of the illegal immigrants are like those depicted in the film, there are some like the coyote, and there are the Muslims. this is why Trump is right about one thing - the need to build a BIG wall. but concurrently, the US should increase the number of visas issued to low-income Mexicans with no criminal record, and allow them to come in legally. there is enough work for them.

just like legalizing drugs will end the drug war, this would stop what's happening to the illegals, who are being abused by coyotes, who are dying in the desert. i've had them work for me in my AZ home, and i'm a woman alone, and i had no fear and they treated me fairly.
