"We heard about what you did for Billy" (SPOILERS)

After Billy's hospitalized from the frat hazing incident, Hugh Grant returns to his class, and his students say, "We heard about what you did for Billy." What I can't figure out is what Hugh Grant is supposed to have done exactly. He happened upon Billy when he was being put in an ambulance, and he visited Billy in the hospital, but nothing all that noteworthy occurs that the students would have heard about. I wonder if a plot point was edited out. Anyone have any ideas?

I was wondering the same thing actually.

reply

Not sure but I assumed that he joined him in the ambulance and kept Billy company till his parents reached the hospital. So most probably they were just appreciating his adult presence in the moment of crisis.

Excuse my English, it's not my native tongue.

reply

You're probably right. They could have made it a little clearer.

reply

I think it was because he went from not caring about his students to going to the hospital when Billy was there. The students could see a change in him and appreciated it.

reply

Yeah, that's pretty much how I interpreted it, as well.
