The meaning of the songs is to serve as themesongs to the various gangs and top dogs, as a warning to the police and rival gangs not to mess with them.
Which I'm not saying is a 'good thing' but it's not just randomly singing about kidnapping etc as you suggest, the lyrics represent real people and events.
But yeah it's weird to see the joyful singalongs indeed and it has a borderline look of brainwashing.
The actual singing by the guy we follow is pretty good, he can definitly hold a key, but yes the lyrical material and what it represents is questionable.
Then, pretty much every gang in the US have a rapper who represent them in their lyrics.
A good father and a good outlaw can't settle inside the same man.
