I cringed while he cooked the omelette.

The scene where the rival chef cooks the omelette for Bradley Cooper when he is hung over made me cringe.

I was always taught not to use hard flatware against nonstick pans, and the scratching sound while he whisked the eggs was driving me crazy.

Indeed. Egg with teflon bits. I didn't think real chefs used non-stick pans. I thought they used fancier copper-bottom pans that are much heavier for spreading the heat evenly.

I think teflon is carcinogenic too.

reply

LOL I kinda did the same thing. I was thinking to myself that you aren't supposed to use metal utensils on nonstick pans.

reply

Yes. For me, you mix eggs in a bowl then pour into the pan. Then serve with a spatula. And it just seemed to be a plain egg omelette. No extra ingredients. I would add tons of lovely ingredients. My Dad can make that with butter in the pan and we know not to use metal utensils in a non stick pan. Basic knowledge. Good film though. ;)

reply

Same here.

~Couple of times before I watched Jamie Oliver doing the same thing on his TV show; making scrambled eggs with a metal fork in a non-sticky pan... Some "chefs" need to read their manuals, obviously. (also on sharpening their knives)

---> It's even dangerous for one's health if the Teflon-layer comes "lose" from these pans & so, small bits get in your food...

Good point, Garcia!

reply

There wouldnt be a nonstick pan anywhere near that kitchen.

reply

Not at all a good point.

It's true Teflon cannot stand up to metal, but we all know that would never be allowed in a kitchen of that caliber.

Hard-anondized aluminum, on the other hand, is nonstick and you can use metal on it. It's also heavy-bottomed, which makes it great for heat retention and distribution. Oh, and the unfamiliar could easily mistake it for a Teflon-type pan.

When I saw the guy scratching the non-stick pan with the fork making the eggs I had to stop the movie to come here.. Haven't even finished the movie yet it disturbed me that much. Pretty sure I still would have started swearing even if i was in a theater. Starts off with plastic to melt the butter too lol. I agree that a professional kitchen probably wouldn't even have those around.

Best part is the first line after the pan scratching is "is this hell" but too bad he wasn't talking about the fork+pan.

Thought exactly the same thing. They had Mario Batalli as a consultant, so you would think they'd know better. It was probably a Lined anodized cast aluminum (nonstick) pan, which doesn't seem to have teflon in it, or something else we are not familiar with.

I know chef Marcus Wareing created all the dishes and consulted for the film but didn't know Batalli was involved too? As for the teflon yeah those are not used much in professional kitchens but there are non stick pans (such as Scanlan) available without teflon.

Gordon Ramsay was also an executive producer.

OHHH GOOOD FOR YOU!!

Haha exactly! So lame and stupid :) But thank's for reciept and video in classic french omelette. Totally forgot that one... Quite nice movie but the script maybe was "kinda" stupid. Sure it's that easy to know when they arrive to test out ?
