I'm glad I'm not the only one confused about the ending. If anyone has any theories please share.

I dont see where to post a comment my self here, Just as confused I was confused it was like one: the trees where watching him and he became a tree and 2: aliens where there, but what did the sapling tree have to do with it and why did he get hurt when she ripped a leaf off of it? Very disappointing ending, it didnt explain nothing.

I may be off base here but it seemed to me that perhaps what the movie was was Aaron's dying moments, while lying there shot in the back. These visions of a life that he would miss out on unfolding before him, and perhaps it is just stylistic choices to have these sci-fi/mystery allusions for funsies, in a Jacobs Ladder kind of way.

I'm not sure about the point of the 'onlooker' /aliens?/Angels/God/something more malevolent? Or indeed the point of the blonde lady, possibly a fun device to throw us off. There is the element of the woods, where his blood on the leaves, parted from their base, caused him to sink further into death - maybe...

It is called The Mourning after all, and overall seems a very heartfelt movie about war and losing people in life.

Very enjoyable surprising movie.
