I'm afraid it won't translate well

Having seen the first episode, I did chuckle a few times but it got me thinking that the format might not be suitable for Axe Cop's antics.

In the comics, Axe Cop is an observer rather than a narrator. Most of the narration is done via the usual box of exposition whereas we cut to Axe Cop making a comment with a deadpan expression

Example:

Narration: Axe Cop goes to the Dinosaur Planet to kill the King of Badguys
Axe Cop: We'll use my space hamster.

It makes it funnier when you read the narration in the voice of a child.

Here, however, most of the exposition falls on Axe Cop. Rather than joke, he drones on and on providing endless exposition. I fear this stunts the character's humor factor.

I'll keep watching though but I do feel a sense of dread that this experiment might fail.

I expected narration myself and it'd be better with it, but the two episodes did a nice job without using it.

You feel it wont translate well into what? It isn't a book that will be a movie. The show doesn't translate as it is not changing form. I do appreciate the pretentious manner you tried to explain your point.
