So confused...
So, flipping through the channels and see a tv show a Dolph Lundgren. Cool, I'm in. I found it a little strange that it was on Sunday night on NBC and I hadn't seen any plugs for it.
That's when the fun started. This show is hilariously awful. The premise has something that could be interesting, but beyond that it's just a complete mess. The way that they rotate characters in and out, it's like a logic puzzle trying to keep up with all of them, which makes it nearly impossible to get invested in any of the character-driven plot lines.
The acting is...horrendous. I can't blame the actors, I don't know much about any of them (aside from DL), and it's pretty clear the writing doesn't give them much to work with. That said, each character speaks like they are improvising...poorly. I have a theory that this show could be used to teach English to non-native speakers. It's like NPR mixed with a telenovela and Sesame Street.
Also, for a specialized search and rescue team, every character has some enormous flaw that would (and often does) prevent them from doing their job, putting their own, the teams, and victims' lives at risk. I understand the idea of character development, and this might seem like nitpicking, but it's really difficult to get past what a disaster each character is, considering their profession.
All that being said, I'll probably continue to DVR it, as a guilty pleasure just in case it magically picks up or I get super bored. It's certainly a head-scratcher, considering that it's not uncommon for shows to get cancelled after only a few episodes. It's entirely possible that I'm just missing something and somehow it'll just click. I'm crossing my fingers.
