This is a hobby I'd like to get into but finding scrap metal in the mud isn't very exciting to me. I wouldn't want to see them fake any finds but they need to maybe emphasize other aspects of the hobby to make the show more exciting. I can't believe a lot of the things they dig up could ever be bought by anyone. You know, "collective value $3", etc.

I don't know that the show is fake, but sometimes they leap to dramatic conclusions about the stuff that they find. Like I mentioned in another thread, in one episode they were digging in a field, and every time they pulled something out of the ground they would say, "This could have belonged to Muddy Waters." Or later in that same episode, one of them found a hay penny and speculated that an old blues musician probably sat there on the hill and used the penny as a guitar pick.

I enjoyed the historical information and didn't feel the show was fake, but I did find the wild speculations a bit too much. Just because you find a wagon wheel near Elvis Presley's house doesn't mean that Elvis probably rode in the wagon when he was a kid.

What they were saying was just desperation to make what they found seem relevant to the search. I hope they actually didn't believe all that, though. If they did, they would be great to sell some junk to. Tell them some rusted belt buckle was found in the mud where Elvis used to work and may have once been a prize possession of his wardrobe and all you're asking is $40 and they couldn't get their money out fast enough.

Metal detecting is a hobby I plan on getting into this summer. I don't plan to show anyone what I found unless I dig up something nice, no twisted pieces of scrap.

I have insider knowledge of how the show is produced and I can tell you that they are really finding the things you see on the show. I too think the over exuberance is obnoxious as all hell and it really ruins the show, but it's not KG and Ringy's idea to be like that. They are actually naturally very funny guys; however, the producer (whose name does seem to appear on the imdb page oddly) is a total *beep* with the lamest sense of humor and demands that they act and say what he wants. Truly, he sucks and he's ruining the show. I really hope they can his ass. He's also responsible for the lack of history in the show. Every time their archaeology consultant finds out really cool stories related to the finds, the producer ignores him and tells him to just stick to monetary value of it or some stupid story he's concocted. He really needs to be let go. It's a shame because, honestly, this show had a lot of potential.

It must be fake. They always find some interesting stuff that should be too good to be true to find in those areas they're digging.

Some stuff looks like they has been borrowed from a museum and are just planted out for the guys to find.
