I really enjoyed this movie. Just curious. Did the TROGS march/hike a five days' journey (and back) to kidnap our three victims just because? Revenge from the beginning? Were they without horses? It is stated by our heroes that they must make a 5 days' journey in three days WITH horses to get them back. Why would the TROGS make such an effort?

It would appear they tracked him to the town, probably not far behind him. When they kidnapped him they took the doctor and the deputy out of opportunity.
It doesn't seem like they have horses but are adept at tracking and navigating the land.
They wanted the guy who desecrated their website. The film gives a clue as to how the important Buddy's actions were to the troglodytes when it focused in on the skull he knocked over. The other people they kidnapped just happened to be with him at the time so they took them too. They would've walked there, but they stole horses from the barn to make their way back.
You'd feel cocky too if you were full of myself.
