Is because the role was a favor to joe carnahan and in doing that he wouldn't have been paid for it despite wanting to do the role. I found out that when an actor does a favor for a friend who is the director of the film or they are really interested in the film but the budget doesn't allow for that actor usual pay grade they end up not getting credited. So this is pretty normal it has nothing to do with a bad film for his reputation or anything like that. He simply did this film because he wanted to and as a favor to his friend.

Ps I think this film is not bad for his career it shows how good of an actor he really is and hopefully he will have more roles like this one.

I have seen the poster his uncredited in the film it's on his wiki page. His not the biggest name in Hollywood but he doesn't have to be he can have a great career and let the others get harassed by all the paps etc.

Yes special appearance is one way to put it but what people were wondering is why a actor that is more famous than the rest of the cast and has a substantial part in the film didn't get credit. The reason being that he didn't get paid there actors that are famous that don't get credit for a role when they.

I read that the credits are kind of a payroll of sorts so if an actor doesn't get paid they aren't on the list.
It has nothing to do with importance and besides they have been using his name to promote the film all over the net.

Yep that's it, that's what I read.
But what I don't know is, is it a law or just the rules of SAG?

Interesting. He actually has quite a large role too (for a movie with many characters), and pivotal to the plot. I thought he was great.

It has nothing to do with how good he is in the film or how large of a role he has. Apparently the SAG has a regulation that a actor that does a film for free or way below their usual pay grade must not be credited. It is actually very common they can use his name to advertise the film just not in the credits.

You don't have to be a fan to like an actors performance

I thought it might be for a surprise, sure an actor probably wants their name on the poster but when Liotta n that showed up I was like woah! Granted they aren't in it as much as Pine but eh, still a surprise.

Maybe it's something to do with ensuring actors get paid.
