Started movie...

voice over, totally dumb
just realized Patrick was horribly miscast
the acting continues to be stilted and out of place
realizing again how horrible the casting is
"%%%%% out a full grown female giraffe" - terrible!!!!
plot just unfolded and not only is it stupid, then you see David Hasselhoff
Hasselhoff cusses - wheeee!!! so dumb and plastic
And he hams and he hams and he hams, awful
"That's how #$# deep I roll" spoken by Hasselhoff - and thus it ends

Turned it off.

How this got the rating it did was by studios trying to manipulate you into buying a crap movie - more likely renting. Stealing your money by manipulating.

This wasn't an academy award winner but it was quite entertaining. Patrick Wilson is very good, I thought, and he's never looked better. The reaction I'm seeing is positive and this could end up as a cult favorite..

I wish I didn't have some *beep* sense of loyalty to Joe Carnahan, and just turned it off at the point you did. The entire movie felt like a preteen's wet dream.

I liked his previous stuff good enough, it's at least watchable. A-team had some solid action. This however was just banal and kept going nowhere, slowly. Not exciting enough to be an action movie, not enough jokes to be a comedy, not well written enough to be a drama, characters with not enough chemistry to be a romance, etc.

It was a miss all the way around. The voice overs are awful, and the dialogue seems to have been written by a teenager. This movie didn't do anything that well, I should have also turned it off earlier...

Twas a good movie. I enjoyed... you never. Unlucky.

I don't think you're exactly wrong about the start, but from about half way, and thru to the end of the movie is great fun. And you're really not allow to have a critique if you don't actually watch it. So, yeah, you lose.

reply

so you turned it off at the 25 min mark and think others will care about your opinion of the film?

You say Patrick Wilson is horribly miscast, but then say nothing to support that. I think he's brilliant in the same way I said Ryan Reynolds was brilliant after average movies like Just Friends and Foolproof... he just had it.. so does Patrick... he's gonna make something huge before it's all said and done...

I thought the Hasselhoff lines were hilarious and well-written...

the movie is far from perfect, but it's still entertaining as hell.. it might have grown on you if you had made it more than 25 minutes... don't rate movies you've watched less than a third of... if you wanna rate it, watch it.

Didn't say I rated it chief, did you miss that part? I think discussing why a movie is turned off or walked out of is fair discussion for the boards. Are there rules you would like to impose? I also gave a good bit of detail why I turned it off, you just disagree and don't like to be disagreed with. Patrick Wilson keeps playing the same role, even in Watchmen he was boy next door with the same confused facial expressions every scene. He's okay, but there's a reason he is relegated to 2nd tier roles in DTV movies. If you watch a lot of movies there are bound to be a few you lose patience with, this was one of them.

I will admit as said before, I don't understand the love for this movie as clearly the critics liked it and majority of the public. I found the dialogue very hammy and the leads and supporting actors I saw were unconvincing. Can't say whether the last half would have changed that opinion but its too late if the first 30 minutes are that bad.

reply

different tastes make the world go around what you love might not be to the taste of others that's perfectly fine.
I liked the film I loved Chris Pines nutty performance and Patrick did a good job as lead. its no Oscar winner but still an enjoyable film in my opinion.

witster18 - The fact that you replied to MaddisMovies obviously makes the answer to your question a big fat YES.

That being said, I don't agree with Maddi. I thought it was a fun film.
