Progressive... to a point
You know, any race, creed, or religion, except for women. Women need to weave baskets and be damsels.
I get how they wanted to seem progressive by having all these people of different ethnic backgrounds in this Medieval "thous shalt not stain my honor"-fest, but the women in this movie are relegated to tradition roles. Just one of the Bartok knights being a woman would have been better -and that's the bare minimum it should have been.
So no matter how progressive a movie tries to be, women are cast aside and no one seems to notice. They are little better than property, despite the "strong" female character that is Raiden's wife. I'm also tired of the "strong female character" trope. I never hear of people saying, "Wow, that was a strong male character."
I'm sure some of you will respond with "stop pushing your agenda," or "this movie was aimed at men." But honestly, who doesn't want to see a woman kicking ass?
Oh, and if a woman is included among the knights, she shouldn't be just a love interest for one of the other knights.
Also, the main character is a white male, so you know, baby steps toward progressive story lines.
