"You Better Move On" by Arthur Alexander

My apologies, but I don't think I was clear on this. I meant the first track when the opening credits and titles appear and "You Better Move On" doesn't sound like what I thought I heard.

reply

You are correct - it is "Steal Away" by Jimmy Hughes, unless you're talking about the instrumental backing score that opens the film.

reply

It must be the instrumental backing score I have in mind as this wasn't it either. Sorry to be so troublesome....!

They used the piano instrumental opening track of "Steal Away" over and over, before his singing began. The filmmakers used this idea several times in the movie, giving the watcher a little time to get used to what was coming. And the reverse, too - The liquid lightening guitar solo that opens "Funky Broadway" - I'm not sure they ever actually played "Funky Broadway". It was done so, so very well. These people know their stuff, and they love it. Maybe when the DVD comes out, it will have a CD with it with the complete songs on it. Those of us who devoured it with our cornbread and milk instantly know what it is.

Many thanks for your help!

Unless I am wrong, these commentators don't know jack. First song I heard during the credits was Wilson Pickett - Land of 1000 Dances from 1965

Anyway, I know this post is a few months old. But, that is a great song

Unless you were speaking of the little bit of instrumental that came before they dropped Pickett and brought on the credits

reply

Exactly right, as soon as Bono stops talking you hear the "123" and it's Wilson Picket.

There is some instrumental song playing just before Bono talks though, which sounds vaguely post-rock ish.

reply

The last two posters are correct!
