Good documentary, my biggest take-away...

It shows the impact that one person with a vision and perseverance can do. Yes, a number of people contributed, but if Rick Hall had not internalized his father's advice, to be better than anyone else in whatever you undertake, FAME records and Muscle Shoals in the broader sense would not have become the success that it was. You can talk all you want about the land or the "singing river" but it was hard work combined with high standards that made it work. And of course the innate talent to know what the sound of a hit record was.

Very good points. This is a superb look at a man and his vision. In some ways, it feels like two films: One about a tortured soul who turned persona tragedy into great music, another about the talent who helped him accomplish his vision. I could have done without some of the perspective from a certainly Irish self-aggrandazing rock star, but when it comes to the musicians Rick Hall worked with, this film shows its rockin' soul. 9/10 stars from me.
