incredible

Easily the greatest music story ever. I was truly brought to tears by the story, the music and when it started and what it became. Beautiful!

How'd you feel about Rick Hall's stories of his sad family life? For me, those were the most touching moments especially his stories of his dad.

reply

Very touching, but truly what drove him. Sad and inspiring at the same time.

reply

As soon as he started the tractor story I winced.

What about the story of his first wife? Sad. He seems to have arrived at a more peaceful state of mind though, fortunately.

Maybe I missed it, but for me the documentary didn't explain where Mr. Hall got his knowledge of electronics and the technical aspects of producing and engineering. He built FAME studio himself, it is said - did all the wiring and everything. I understand it was maybe a little primitive by later standards but shoot, we're still listening to those records. It wasn't *that* primitive.

His wife, his parents, his brother: Rick Hall faced tragedy and torment on an epic scale. At first I found felt those details distracted from the story here, but I soon realized his life and the Muscle Shoals story are one and the same. This is a superb look at overcoming obstacles, but this film would still have been fascinating if it focused only on the great music Muscle Shoals produced.
