Why not kill the 2 guys at the 'whorehouse'

Clearly they were deserters whom no one would care about. They were drunk and unarmed.
Instead, Moll gives her a stiff shot of liquor for the inevitable. But then she bites the one dude anyway.
Not a very well-written scene.

I couldn't believe when I read his filmography that he played a toilet (no joke) in According to Jim

They weren't deserters but they were advance scouts for the approaching Union army.

Or at least disarm them. I thought the shopkeeper would have grabbed the dude's gun when she got the drop on him up on the horse. It's like they wanted to get murdered.

I agree, especially since he probably knew that they would kill him and Moll as soon as Augusta rides off. He should’ve killed them.

The other poster noted that they were advance scouts of the Union Army. Also, they were armed, just kinda drunk at the moment. They were used to killing for the last four years whereas Moll & Augusta weren't used to killing at all, probably the barkeep too. They were waiting out the war in their remote rural homes. The prospect of killing a person didn't come easy to them and so they wouldn't do it unless they absolutely had no other choice.

Moll was drinking shots too so she was a little drunk; it's also possible that she wanted to die, especially in light of her lifestyle. Her plan was to help Augusta escape while diverting the attentions of the scumbags.
