As terrible as this trilogy turned out to be from start to finish, it still ultimately will have helped their careers significantly more than if they had never landed those roles. Particularly Daisey Ridley & John Boyega who were unknowns going into it. Considering how quickly this trilogy is likely to be forgotten, it's not like they have to worry about being typecast in a way they might have been if their characters were more popular.

reply

Exactly. In fact, OT cast suffered much more from way too much Star Wars fandom that pretty much stuck through their whole lives.

reply

the OT cast got very rich right?
carrie and mark did not have to really work again, did they?

what about daisy, heard she only got around 300K for each movie..... does she, and the rest of the cast get a part of the movies profits as well? i can't find any info.

reply

Are you high? No, they did not get rich doing star wars, and yes, they did have to keep working.

Harrison Ford apparently got 10 thousand dollars for the first movie. Mark Hamill got a share probably because they didn't think the movie would make much. David Prowse, Peter Mayhew, James Earl Jones got next to nothing. And other than Harrison Ford, none of them were in any other significant movies after SW.

reply

but the OT cast got a share of the profits.... each time the movie is shown, or someone buys SW stuff, they get some money....... some else chime in, i am wrong or right ?

reply

Not all of them, and as i said, they gave them shares because they didn't think the movie would do that good. The producers were trying to be cheap. If they knew the movie would bring this much money they would never give a percentage.

reply

I think John Boyega will be helped by it; Daisey Ridley I think will suffer the Mark Hamill fate and not really get any real film recognition after this. She is only slatted for 2 things post star wars right now. This Chaos Walking is the only thing even worth mentioning and I think her career moving forward is going to depend on how that film does.

reply

Not really. Even the actors from the OT didn't go on to do much except for Harrison Ford and James Earl Jones (who only did voice work so it was a little easier for him to break away). The PT Trilogy didn't do Hayden Christenson any favors, either. Then you have the sad fate of Jake Lloyd and Amed Best. Fortunately, Portman, McGregor, and Liam Neesan were already quite famous so they didn't take as big of a hit.

I'm not sure what Ridely has in store but Boyega's new fame didn't do much for Pacific Rim 2. Meanwhile, X-Men: Apocalypse didn't do too well despite having Oscar Isaac attached. Being in a Star Wars movie doesn't do much for a person's career regardless of how popular it is.

I agree partially with McGregor (He was pretty well established in the U.K. but Star Wars made him famous in the U.S. and elsewhere ) & definitely Liam Neeson but Portman wasn't really a star until Star Wars. She became significantly more famous & high in demand during and after her Star Wars years.

reply

I dunno. I was familiar with both Portman and McGregor before Phantom Menace but I'm a film buff.

reply

Being a film buff would explain it. I was a casual movie goer in middle school when TPM came out & I was barely familiar with Natalie Portman from The Professional (which I saw only parts of by chance) that I believe was the biggest role she had done prior to Star Wars. I flat out had no idea who Ewan McGregor was. Neeson was by far the most well known actor.
