Was Han Solo killed off too early?

We could've had him in at least one more movie, but the blame at the end of the day goes to Harrison Ford. He wouldn't have come back if they didn't kill Han off (he wanted Han to die as far back as Return of the Jedi). Plus, it made Kylo Ren irredeemable, but that's another subject for another time.

I guess it had to be done that way. I enjoy the Last Jedi more than this one because I just hate that bridge scene. It fits with the story but it's like watching Bambi's mom get killed with an assault rifle. And the kid in me enjoyed seeing Luke Skywalker return in TLJ more than seeing Han again. I know Han made things interesting, but the story was never about him.
It was good to see Princess Leah though. Carrie Fisher finally gets to play Leah as a real leader in these movies. I hope they use her last footage well in Rise of Skywalker.

Nah, it was okay to kill him off in the first new movie. They just really made a botched rag of it. First off, you gotta get that onscreen reunion in there. Secondly, what's the point of returning Han to his smuggler ways unless you're going to introduce something like the smuggler's alliance that often serves as aide to the Rebellion and even set up a new character like Talon Karrde from the books to replace him. Massive world building and character replacement all in one shot. Good to go. They even could have established this during the crazy cgi monster scene if they wanted. Instead we get Han just hanging around for a while until it's time to serve him up as a sacrificial lamb. It's just waste of screentime. But it's pretty clear these films are just cashgrabs. This isn't Lucas. They're not looking to build and expand the mythology of this universe.

Ford would have come back if they gave him enough cash. I don't really care that they killed him off, but it was done stupidly. It was obvious that it was going to happen and there was no real emotion in that scene.

It was criminal to not reunite the trio on screen, at least once. Insanely bad move.

It was so obvious he was going to die by Kylo's hand ever since Snoke announced to the audience in the first quarter of the film that Kylo was Han's son. Talk about blowing your load way to soon.

The audience should not have known that Kylo was Ben until Han calls his name. Think about how tense that moment would be if that was the first time the audience learns Han and Leia's son was Kylo. They reveled it way too early and ruined it.

Yes absoluetly, the Original trio did not need to be the main characters but they needed to be together on screen at least once and each have a 'passing of the torch' moment. But that did not happen. So many missed opportunities.

Yes. But I'm pretty sure they had no choice as they probably could only get Ford back for one more....

If only for the fact that Leia, Luke, and Han weren't brought together in a scene again, and now because of these choices, never will. What a wasted opportunity.

I'm still kind of surprised they got him back and he was in it as much as he was (appeared about half an hour in for build up, then was in most scenes until about 20minutes before the end credits)

I guess the winding down of his leading man movie career (not just bc he got old but that's just how Hollywood is now with IP king over above the title stars) 'force'd him to reassess his role in SW and I heard he was keen to be back in a substantial role not just a cameo (which surprised everyone involved as they all thought hed be like 'no way' after wanting Solo to die in Jedi)

I guess had they not assumed he wanted to die (as he wanted before) maybe they could've discussed it with him and maybe hed have been open to being in more and having him survive TFA and die in Last Jedi instead of Luke or even been in all 3 just not died at all.. remember when Ford was wanting Solo offed in ROTJ his movie career had just taken off in ways he could have never have imagined .. but by TFA he was probably only too happy to be back in a big mega franchise making mega bucks again like RDJnr was doing with MCU (along with waiting to do Indiana Jones V and also Blade Runner 2 -which he probably would never have done had it been made previously in the 90s as he hated making the original and clashed with Scott)

They didn't have a choice id they wanted Ford back. For some strange bizarre reason, he really just doesn't like playing the character. Taking that into account, they did really well with his character and the movie.
