No chemistry (spoilers)

The irony of the film was the the lead male performance was so lack lustre and bland, yet he is supposed to be a writer and we are supposed to be witnessing a seduction! Just not believable.

The dialogue between his parents was the best part. Oh, the French kids were pretty cute too )

What specifically made his performance lack luster and bland, IMD?

The Op is right i thought the same thing i love Anton Yelchin in almost every movie but not in this one he was just not in the right place , it was like watching a kid with an older women .

The story of this movie was so messed up, the kid got his heart broken by an married old women who was looking for men out side when she was smoking cigarette so what kind of idiot boy who fall in love with this kind of women ?

reply

I feel the same way, no chemistry, no sparks of desire. I kept thinking how much better it could have been with a different male lead.

An old woman? She was 33, for crying outloud! Although I thought she looked a bit older than that.

A kid? He was 24, again for crying outloud! That's not a kid.

That's only a 9-year age difference, not a 90-year difference!

I thought it was a very good match, except that Berenice looked at bit chunky, esp. in the legs. Beautiful face, no doubt, but carrying a little weight. Check it out in the scene where they are walking in the park toward the camera.

As much as I enjoyed the movie, I thought a better match would have been Anton Yelchin with a more "shapely" female lead with about the same age difference. Physically, that would have been a much better match, IMHO. And there are a number of very shapely, older French actresses out there!

I really enjoyed the evolution of Brian's writing career. All those rejection letters, and then...the BIG break. And it all came together for him. He did it himself, but I think meeting Jane as a result of knowing Arielle helped him regarding his first novel getting published. And then his great writing talent propelled him to become a famous writer. Would it have happened had he not met Arielle? Most likely, but knowing Jane may have greased the skids for him.

I thought it was a great movie, esp. the end. Good for Brian!

I also thought Mr. Yelchin's voice over/narration was excellent, as usual.

Jealous! She's only 33 & gorgeous. Bet you're no youngster, nor beauty!

reply

You must be a catty queen or a jealous anorexic hag! She has a perfect shapely, fit hourglass body! She's got a teeny waist. Strong muscular legs are so much sexier than no hip/noassatall chicken legs - yuck!

Your attempt to make this about me has failed. I'm not going to respond to those personal comments. It's amazing how many people on these boards try the attack mode to discredit people who post things they don't like. It's kind of childish, really.

Look at that scene, redal. Open your eyes and LOOK. Believe your eyes, or believe yourself. The choice is yours, of course. No, she doesn't have a "perfect" shape.

BTW, you posted this as if you're replying to the OP. Oops!

Your mind is in a very dark place. Seek help. I feel like I need to shower off the filth after reading your posts.

Nope, Anton's not the little twerp. But I know who is.

Over and out.

This movie is almost perfect really, the story is there but what was wrong with the casting director?!? No chemistry whatsooooever between the leadroles! What a shame! One of the leads had to go and I think she might have been miscast. I choose her because he felt like the better actor out of the two. Tho I liked the fact that they were visually not what you would describe as one perfect couple but they didnĀ“t connect and so this movie felt like a waste. :( Jeez, the people making the movie must have seen that.

He was self depreciating, honest and witty --he was just very naive and young.
