copy of british show????

back in 2011 in the UK there was a series of the same name about 3 paramedics working in Leeds (UK)
Is an assumption this is a copy of this and changed to american humour, or is it a totally different concept?
The UK version was very good just didn't last that long hence the question, also is it set to air in UK?

It's is and it isn't a copy of the British show. Like every other foreign tv show that has been imported to the US- is has been butchered to the point where the original version no longer exists.
Like the British version it is centered around three paramedics, one new- one gay- one other, but that's about where it all ends. The UK version is more of a comedy/drama while the US version is your typical half hour sitcom, with cast members that say things like, "he's the dick whisperer" and several unmemorable one-liners.
I can go into greater detail if you really want me to- but if you're hoping this will fill the void left by the original- keep looking because this show is not it.

reply

yeah I had that horrible feeling it may be like that.
it does make the series Episodes appear more and more like real life, take a british show and turn it into 'pucks'
ah well If its on when I'm watching TV may give it a whirl but will not go out of my way now :)

That is exactly what happened to this series. It's pretty common though.
If you're curious about what this show is like you can create a US amazon account and watch the 1st and 3rd episode of Sirens US for FREE.

It also keeps the gay character's life very much in the background with only passing references to his sexuality, which is a shame as that was dealt with in a very humorous manner in the original.

Given the lowbrow humour I think they are wary of turning off their target audience with anything other than tokenism.

They haven't really covered anyone one but Johnny and Theresa's love life yet...

Episode 7 is titled "Til Jeff Do Us Part"...Jeff is mentioned as Hank's Ex in the pilot..looks like they get into hank's love life there.

"Johnny steps up for his friend when Hank gets an invitation to his ex's wedding, while Theresa has trouble seeing eye to eye with a wedding guest and Brian learns a new job skill."

reply

Which of the two are you talking about?
because the british version had a gay "sex scene" while the US one keeps saying how big of slut he is- which is okay...cause he's gay. >.>

it isnt that bad, apparently it got dennis leary's touch (he a great comic, you ought & owe it to urself to check 1 of his one man show), and dude made a great british cop show way back in the days, before he made this cool firemen show, so even if i was put off a lil by the beginnings of this one, i grew fonder to it, really a tv-ufo, they take risks, its a bit hit& miss, but certainly not a total crappy flop like some may wanna think, imho.

Yes and no.

Many remakes are both pointless and bad, but this one is a pretty great show. Mainly because it has Denis Leary all over it. But the main thing is it's really not a remake at all. More like inspired by. The two shows have almost nothing in common

I like both but other than the main premise and a couple small details they are nothing alike at all. Truth be told with a different title you would be hard pressed to even compare them much.

The UK one is much more serious and gritty and the US one is more on the silly light side. You can tell they had no intentions of a remake here. Like I said, inspired by for the most part.

They copy the concept but write their own episodes to fit into American culture, same as with Shameless.

Light travels faster than sound,
that's why people seem bright,
until you hear them.

Same with The Office - it was copied from the UK series. In North America they tend to go 5-6-7 seasons and in the UK they have much shorter seasons and maybe 2-3 seasons in total. Many other shows are copied from the UK shows as members mentioned here.

I wonder if the Brits got the idea from 'Mother, Jugs, and Speed'…. Anyone know?

a lot british shows going to be recycled from time to time. We remember:
Queer as Folks, Mistresses, Being Human, - just to call few titles.
