with a "manic pixie dream girl" that helps the male protagonist realize himself. Isn't that trope getting a little tired?

Did you actually see this? It had more of an indie "Big Lebowski" suburban noir vibe to me. It was a little hard to buy that a social maladjusted loser who lives with his mother would end up with a hot-ass girl like Nikki Reed, but since he was a good-looking guy to begin with, who only really needed a decent haircut. . .

I don't know that he ever "realized" himself or that Reed's character was all that much of a "manic pixie dream girl".
