God I remember that movie. Very similar! Good book too.

The Deep End of the Ocean is exactly that kind of movie when critics say contemptuously 'Lifetime melodrama': overly melodramatic and completely unrealistic.

Yes, except that movie was actually good. This one was just weird and creepy.
