No, it's more a reference to Stockholm syndrome and the film takes place in Pennsylvania.

Watching this now. The mom just decided to take her to get an ID, and got on the phone with (presumably) information to get the location, and she stated the city she wanted the dmv as "Salem," so that would be my guess.

Morphiuz,

The title refers to the condition "Stockholm Syndrome" that some victims/hostages experience after they escape or are free'd from being kidnapped and held captive by their abductor. -It's " a psychological phenomenon in which hostages express empathy and sympathy and have positive feelings toward their captors, sometimes to the point of defending and identifying with the captors"

Basically the whole experience emotionally/psychologically *beep* the victim and this is a result of it. Esp if they were held captive for a significant amount of time, their brain gets conditioned to heavily rely and be dependent apon their captor, they get used that way of life, the abductor instills fear into the victim by verbal/physical abuse and have a way of making victims believe no one loves them, their families are no looking for them, and the captor is the only person who will care and look after them and that is the victims only home now- with the captor.

Its painful for the family because they dont understand why their child is having compassion for the person that ripped them away and held them against their will and abused them..its hurts and confuses them, obviously. Yet at the same time, its not the childs fault they are not purposely doing it,it just happens over time when captors have a psychological hold over you.Think domestic violence, how some women choose to stay and not leave...its not that simple for them because in their mind their abusive spouse is "all they have in this world", they are the only person who will care about or stand up for them, etc. Because of the repeated abuse, they get conditioned to follow abusers rules and obey because , they know they'll get beaten or punished if they dont comply. Then it develops this psychological hold/power over them, make the women believe that they have to stay because they cannot live in the world and survive WITHOUT him - so compassion for the abuser develops as a result of the manipulation, "he loved me when nobody else did" type of thinking.

So the title for this movie is basically telling "A case of Stockholm Syndrome happening in the state of Pennsylvania" .... so they come up with a clever movie title. The story will follow a family's struggle when their daughter, who is experiencing Stockholm Syndrome, is trying to adjust to the return home after being kidnapped and spending a significant time away being being held captive.

Hope this helps XX

No, it sounds like they came up with a clumsy and heavy-handed metaphor for a title.
