was looking forward to seeing it whhatt a waste of time

I have been looking forward to this movie a while...and was beyond dissapointed. Its like if you didnt know exactly what happened because of the discripion then you dont know till more than halfway through the movue and so much in this movie is so unreal..man what a dissapointment. Also they barely did flashbacks at all and was so confusing and the acting being a jjoke ezcept the young girls and whats his name. This movie could have been so good. Jaycee lee dugard is problly going to roll her eyes if she even attemps to watch this movie. In closing the worst part is in the flasbackss the kid seemed tto be almost happy she was with him...yeah right...dont waste ur time on this one.

You and others clearly don't get the point of the movie so don't tell others to not waste their time because you didn't understand. The main point is the girl developed STOCKHOLM SYNDROME hence the title which is a REAL syndrome in which people that were kidnapped end up having a bond and connection with their captor. Google it. So the movie is showing what it's like for someone with that syndrome adjusting to life back home and how strange and uncomfortable it is for everyone. The man raised her as if she were his child and taught her all these things that she believed. She doesn't know any other life but the one with him. So yeah she was happy with him. I don't get why people can't figure obvious things out.

reply

Are you going to go on every post here that criticizes the movie and assume it's because people don't know what Stockholm syndrome is? 

reply

It's quite obvious that many don't or somehow didn't realize that was the main point of the movie, otherwise they would have understood the movie...

reply

Maybe some people don't know what Stockholm Syndrome is, but I do and I have a lot of questions.

reply

I understood the movie and it still sucked. I hope people don't waste their time with this horrible movie.

reply

Have to agree and that movie made me sleepy lol

Lara Croft Himiko! The First Sun Queen! This is Yamatai.

It was pretty good for a while, then fizzled out something awful. I thought the actors did a great job though. Did the best they could with this crap story.

reply

It was a horrible movie because of Cynthia Nixon. Why in the hell was she able to force her daughter into a room and treat her like that monster did? I hated the whole idea of it. no one came in to rescue this child. No background nothing. No way would that girl have been allowed to go to the prison to see her abductor. Hated it. It really pissed me off! Then, to end it with the possibility that she did that to a little girl...WRONG

reply

It was one of those movies where you had to suspend your disbelief, common sense and reasonableness to enjoy it.

See things like this is why I agree VivciousLove...

people dont like a movie because they dont "get why the mothr would act like that, how dare she, I hate the whole idea of it, it doesnt make sense why a human being would do that , the mom was just as awful as the kidnapper"

"THE MOVIE WAS HORRIBLE BECAUSE I DIDNT GET HOW THESE CHARACTERS WERE ACTING ILLOGICAL. I DIDNT LIKE HOW THE CHARACTER UNRAVELED...I DIDNT LIKE THEIR DECISIONS OR HOW THEY TREATED EACH OTHER" !!!!!

Well guess what? I dont like murderers, I find child abuse horrendous, kidnapping children is unfathomable, affairs hurts people, and psychological issues happen over various reasons and human beings sometimes act like monsters. But I watch and enjoy movies with all those themes. I open my mind and instead of basing a movies likability on just "feely good feely good happy ending movies where everyone does the logical thing and ends up OK happily everafter" I instead am touched to the core with the complexities of life and want to dive deep into the psyche of a character whose actions I find horrendous... and try to understand what would make a person do such a thing?I find beauty and meanings in alot of films who actions I just dont get.

THE MOMS ACTIONS WERE NOT THAT AT THE BEGINNING. people are like....not getting this.... HOW DID HER MENTAL STATE UNRAVEL? HOW DID SHE BECOME THIS EVIL PERSON? why did she change? answer it... and there you will find one of the points to a movie.

in some level I always try to have compassion - not EXCUSE, ADORE, LIKE, CONDONE or APPROVE or whatever of their actions but kind of connect on a human level ..."I get it" their actions it doesnt make sense to me, id never act that way, but in a deranged head.... I get how they think their actions are logical. I dont agree and im disgusted with some characters development but in a small way these ARTISTS... THESE FILMMAKERS develop characters to help us realize "hey that could be anyone in that situation ....and how would I handle it? Maybe differently but I dont know because I havent felt the level of pain this mother has had in her life. that pain in addition to her frustration her many years of trying with her emotionless, drained and "just over it" husband (dont blame him) and then STILL being rejected by the ONE THING SHE HAS PUT HER LIFE ON HOLD FOR 18 YEARS.... I can see how a psychological well being of a HUMAN can go to that level"

I dont like the mom turning into what she did. I think the story is heartbreaking. but the reason I watched it and the message I received was that human have layers of themselves...like a onion ... in their life and I got to see HOW a person could get to where they are in life-mentally- even if I dont condone the end game. or approve. People just see "how she turned out and dont like it so the movie sucked and it was lame because there were no exploding buildings or action"

so people YES this movie may be "sucky" FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT THE MESSAGE TO BE HANDED TO THEM ON A PLATTER< FOR PEOPLE WHO DONT WANT TO DIG DEEPER OR CARE ABOUT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT -BUT FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO DIVE INTO THE COMPLEXITY OF HUMAN BEINGS AND SEE AND UNDERSTAND THE DARKER SIDE OF PEOPLES MINDS AND HOW THAT HAPPENS_ IF PEOPLE CAN ENJOY A VARIETY OF TYPES OF FILMS AND STILL HAVE THE CAPACITY TO ENJOY A FILM _ OR APPRECIATE IT EVEN IF IT WAS A DISTURBING OR DARK TALE_ THEN GIVE THIS MOVIE A CHANCE>YOU MAY LIKE IT> sorry didnt mean to yell my computer gets stuck on caps locks sometimes randomly lol

Your response was illogical. Was there supposed to be a point in your rambling?

reply

I actually enjoyed it because it was not a typical story. The mother was so damaged and desperate to keep her daughter that she became the captor. I could have done without that ending, though.
