I had to watch this movie another time to see what I could pay close heed to and pick up on, because the dialogue is not completely clear and you can't always understand what is being said due to some of the scripting and sound inadequacies.
Aunt Jinny pretty much served the purpose of warning George about Grandma Mercy being after him all along, but the movie never elaborates why when it consistently reminds us that George was close with Mercy and she was his best friend. We're just left to assume that each spell she did resulted in her losing every good part of herself and was eventually overtaken by the dark forces.
Furthermore, I don't like how they didn't mention a thing about George and Buddy's dad and why Rebecca was a single parent in the first place. It's like they didn't have time to even give us that necessary piece of information to make the story make more sense as to why they live in their current situation aside from the fact that Mercy needs assistance.
Jim (Dylan) was raised by Mercy, so he sees her as a mother and checks up on her. Around the beginning of the film, it's shown he's been flirting with George's mom Rebecca. He eventually confesses to George that Pastor Luke promised him he could have Rebecca, hinting Pastor Luke having some type of involvement in their relationship but this is never fully explained.
In continuation, I think he wanted to get with Rebecca but they couldn't be a thing. I'm wondering if it had to do with Mercy's powers. Rebecca mentioned at one point Mercy did bad things to her. Uncle Lanning also told George Mercy didn't want any of her children leaving her (especially since it took her having to resort to the evil book to conceive them). As hinted, Mercy even went as far as using her powers to kill Jinny's husband Terry during their honeymoon camping trip.
Pertaining the ending, who knows where the pastor was. But overall, the scripting of this movie is quite jumbled and hardly conveys anything as certain and you're always left to guess, which is not right when it comes to attempting to tell a proper story.
