Spoiler Question

First let me say this movie is AWFUL. How did they get this cast? Was someone paid a lot of money to assemble a terrible film that is badly scripted and edited by monkeys? Ok now to my questions.
Spoiler alert!!!!!

What exactly was Dylan Mcdermotts character trying to say to the kid? I had no idea what he was talking about. The pastor was involved? Then where was he at the end? What was Dylan's "job"? What was he point of Aunt Jinny.

This didn't feel so much like a movie than a TV show, with the same artistic and time restraints. Shouldn't surprise me though; take a bunch of people with documentary and TV experience and tell them to make a movie - you get a really long TV show.

I'm seeing these cheap TV type productions more and more recently. Probably due to lack of investors. It's like they went back and took the production methods from 1982, and threw in a couple dolly shots and 20 seconds worth of CGI to bring things back to the future. Streaming video has done a good job to focus on quantity over quality.

As far as your question - I don't know. I kept falling asleep and had to go back a few times. Took me a couple hours to "watch" this one. Not sure what Dylan's job was. It was pretty clear that Jinny's job was to tell George to get out of the house a few times and then die, so the kid could pick up her cell to talk to his mom.

I had to watch this movie another time to see what I could pay close heed to and pick up on, because the dialogue is not completely clear and you can't always understand what is being said due to some of the scripting and sound inadequacies.

Aunt Jinny pretty much served the purpose of warning George about Grandma Mercy being after him all along, but the movie never elaborates why when it consistently reminds us that George was close with Mercy and she was his best friend. We're just left to assume that each spell she did resulted in her losing every good part of herself and was eventually overtaken by the dark forces.

Furthermore, I don't like how they didn't mention a thing about George and Buddy's dad and why Rebecca was a single parent in the first place. It's like they didn't have time to even give us that necessary piece of information to make the story make more sense as to why they live in their current situation aside from the fact that Mercy needs assistance.

Jim (Dylan) was raised by Mercy, so he sees her as a mother and checks up on her. Around the beginning of the film, it's shown he's been flirting with George's mom Rebecca. He eventually confesses to George that Pastor Luke promised him he could have Rebecca, hinting Pastor Luke having some type of involvement in their relationship but this is never fully explained.

In continuation, I think he wanted to get with Rebecca but they couldn't be a thing. I'm wondering if it had to do with Mercy's powers. Rebecca mentioned at one point Mercy did bad things to her. Uncle Lanning also told George Mercy didn't want any of her children leaving her (especially since it took her having to resort to the evil book to conceive them). As hinted, Mercy even went as far as using her powers to kill Jinny's husband Terry during their honeymoon camping trip.

Pertaining the ending, who knows where the pastor was. But overall, the scripting of this movie is quite jumbled and hardly conveys anything as certain and you're always left to guess, which is not right when it comes to attempting to tell a proper story.

He said Hastur promised him, not the pastor.

ooooh Hastur sounds like Pastor. haha. oops. It's still a terrible movie but thank you!

reply

hahaha! I also thought he said Pastor. Nice to find out there was an attempt at consistency even though the movie still sucked. Thanks.

The subtitles say "pastor".

Their Dad was mentioned but only once. When Buddy was making sushi at their Grandma's welcome home party. He says that his Dad fedexed the fish to him from New York. It would seem that their parents were divorced.

This might be the most insane bit of the whole movie. Bobby Flay it up!

The way I understand is that a deal was made by Mercy when she was younger in order to become a mother. The very first price that she paid was when her husband became the town drunk, after that we see a lot of blessings that came through her way, one example was the time that even with the drought, her land was spared. I think this all lead up to the fact that with all those positive things going for Mercy, the ultimate goal/price of the devil (Hastur and not Pastor) was to posses Georgie. Also Hastur made a deal with Dylan Mcdermott's character that in order to get the love of his life (which is Georgie's mother), he has to help it (Hastur) posses Georgie.

I couldn't begin to answer your questions, OP. This movie was nothing but garbled nonsense. I'd like to know what happened when Jim got hit by the truck. It didn't slow down, it hit him, and it kept on going. What a driver that was.
