I hate fake southern accents

Just sayin... *sigh*

Yeah, what's ironic is that Luke Benward is from TN. Very few people can do a true Virginian accent, though. I wish they would hire a dialect coach.

reply

Apologies! Didn't mean to imply that all of them weren't genuine, just nearly all of them.

Im not sure why it is, but Ive heard that its very hard for non-Southerners to sound an authentic Southern accent- let alone the specific locale they are doing. I have seen GWTW many times- and actually though I don't think the accents in that film are terrible. Scarlett in particular sounds Piedmont Georgian to me.

I'm of an age to remember old timers who had the real Old Virginia accent. I'm a Virginian down to every cell in my body, and I had a hard time understanding them. I believe their had to be a certain amount of license taken just for clarity. I didn't think any of the accents were heinous, except the pet Rat and Lauren Holly, and Jason Isaacs was spot on. I hate fake Southern accents, as well, but it wasn't bad enough to bother me in this film.

Yes I agree. This is what a Real Virginian accent sounds like.
