Background audio problems

I watched a part of this for the first time yesterday. There was an irritating audio 'ducking' problem when anybody spoke, the background sound would fade down. It was really noticeable and distracting, not to mention a massive amateur mistake for the sound guys. It was quite bad in public places where the surrounding audio would actually get loud in conversational pauses.
Did anyone else notice this?

yeah noticed it in pub. It's like they automastered the whole track, so when they stop talking whatever audio is in the gaps gets boosted. You're not alone.

It was screwed up because it was likely that it was recorded in the native French language and an English lamguage dubbed version created over the top of the background noise. The dubbing was atrocious and poorly synched. Jean Reno, the lead actor who is as fluent in English as his native French, was given atrocious English dubbing. Unbelievable that they released the English version with such poor audio. It would have been better in the native French with switchable English sub-titles.
