I saw this movie in 1996

It was called "Alaska" and it had the EXACT same story.

And just like this POS, it was ALSO filmed in Canada, not Alaska.

Actually there are a number of key plot differences. First off in Alaska, the kids go looking for the father who has crashed in the wilderness. In Against The Wild the kids have crash landed in the wilderness and their parents are part of the search.

The kids are accompanied by a dog in Against The Wild, there is no dog in Alaska.

Against The Wild is not filmed or set anywhere near Alaska. The dog is an Alaskan Malamute, but this breed lives all over the globe. Against The Wild is set in Northern Ontario, there are no mountains, the topography is completely different than what you would find in Alaska.

"Alaska" had a polar bear cub, which basically acted like a dog for much of the movie.

Hmmmm, bit of a stretch. If the kids in Alaska had a parrot, one could say....the kids in Alaska had an animal with them, and so did the kids in Against The Wild.

Have you actually seen Against The Wild from start to finish? There is a long list of differences between the two movies.

reply

Point taken. They were both *beep* movies that don't deserve to be discussed any further. Never seen Alaska, but this piece of crap just stole an hour or two of my time. Garbage.

And what's the big deal about it being the same or nearly the same. Just how many remakes are out there? Thousands. Does it matter? No.
