The solo plane pilot

When they are assaulting the alien outpost and the plane appears (randomly) and he does a couple of strafing runs (that we saw) and then gets destroyed by an emp or something (why didn't it affect the truck?)

That pilot should have received more recognitin imo, if it wasn't for him gunning down all those mind controlled soldiers and heavies then they would have had to deal with a lot more resistance and possibly would have been overwhelmed.
