How can this be adapted into into a film?

I love the book, love it! But so much bad language and hedonism, the drugs the sex. This is what drives the book and the character. If it is paired down at all it will just lose it's essence. Any ideas?

It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage.

reply

By making it an R rated film.

Who's scruffy lookin'?

reply

If you can make American Psycho into a film, you can make this diluted version into a film.

reply

Thing is, "American Psycho" the movie can only take limited themes from the book since most of the latter is indeed unfilm-able.

reply

Did you see Filth? Didn't lose its essence, still filthy, sex, drugs, bad language.

Really want to see Nicholas as this character, specially in some particular scenes. Hope they didn't change a lot.

reply

Except for the ending. It the film, it's "funny." The end of the novel Filth is not funny at all. Quite frightening, actually.

reply

i found it to be rather "poetic" in the movie. loved it.

reply

This is a fun book but utterly derivative.

It's like Niven read American Psycho, Trainspotting and couple of Ben Elton's and wrote a book by numbers.

So no doubt the film will be utterly derivative; a mash up of hedonism montages, a few moments of laugh out loud cartoon style comedy, the obligatory bleak part, an inner monologue from Stelfox and pumping (britpop) soundtrack.

It will be nothing like we've seen before, if we've not watched a film for 30 years.

reply

haha. Unfortunately, so true.

"You're wrong. It's four times the risk, and I'm double the worst trouble you ever had."

reply

yeah, the film turned out as a terrible mishmash of muddled parts that tried to be badly lifted from those elements you named.

reply

I think if they can successfully adapt Trainspotting, American Psycho, Fight Club and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas for example I doubt there'll be much of a problem with Kill Your Friends.

reply

How can a movie be adapted into a film? Same thing mate.
