American Psycho: Redux?

Now, if there was just a way they could've worked Huey Lewis and the News in there.

reply

Agree they're nearly identical.

reply

yea having seen the film, it was very American Psycho, only...British and in the 90s instead of the 80s. No Huey Lewis and the News, but they had the Prodigy's Smack My B_tch Up and Climbatize, and Radiohead's Karma Police, Sneaker Pimps's 6 Underground, Oasis, hints to the Spice Girls, dj music culture, and all the obvious british wave of the 90s.

reply

Was it entertaining at least?

reply

It was actually. None of the characters are likeable though. I can't think of one. It was a pretty funny movie. Really dark stuff. Satirizes the music industry and turns everyone into caricatures.

reply

I give it a look on dvd then

reply

KYF tends towards this direction, but it does not come close. john niven really hard to tries to become something between irvine welsh and Bret Easton Ellis, but fails miserable at doing so.

reply

American Psycho:Bollux.

reply

Well done, sir

reply

All the scenes with the cop are just pure plagiarism.

The movie feels like it was made by a student, a young fan of Ellis who has nothing to say and try to play with American Psycho original structure. "Oh yeah, maybe in this, Jean would be also a psycho, and her & "Patrick" would try to frame "Willem Dafoe" ! It's perfect, because now there is gonna be a sextape scene like in American Psycho, but it will have more narrative meaning !".
That's pathetic.

This movie has nothing to say, and can't even steal correctly what was beautiful in American Psycho : the heart. The deep contradiction in Patrick that made the character so relevant and strangely endearing. Here, Hoult is just a stupid prick. Probably like the director and the writer of this huge *beep*

reply

very well put.

reply

This was a near carbon-copy.
Kind of crazy how much a rip-off it was.

reply

Oh, and I just watched the end. A&R. Assault and Retribution. Assassination and Robbery...etc.

Murders and Executions anyone?

Such hack BS.

reply

Still planning to see it, but it sounds like if I make a drinking game out of obvious swipes I'll be dead in the morning

reply

Yeah, it had an American Psycho vibe. Only it was the 90's and he was British. :)
