Since the beginning I knew that he made the wrong choice. It would have been a different story... Another one that I would love to see. But, we can't do nothing about it.

I'm happy he chose Áron. I would have chosen him too except the part where he would kill you.
Perhaps even getting killed by the one you love most is an ideal death. The other character wasn't really developed much and perhaps he was meant to seem more boring.
I feel like Szabi stayed because of Aron. He didn't want to leave Aron alone in that little town. He knew Bernard would move on and still be happy.
Aron.. Well I don't know why he felt compelled to kill Szabi. Could have just told him to go away. Unless he couldn't bring himself to force Szabi away, but apparently he could bring himself to kill him?! I just don't get it.
He killed Szabi because he couldn't be together with him and because he couldn't bear him to leave. That's my idea of his motivation anyway.
shareI agree that your explanation is probably the right one. Regardless, I was really upset by the ending. There was so much to like about this film to have it end this way. I realize it is based on a true story but "based" gives one creative license to end it differently. I am seriously tired of so many gay themed films with these tragic endings.

I couldn't choose between the two if I had to, that's why I got all excited when they hugged all together in the lake but that happiness didn't last long. The moment Bernard asked him to leave Aaron, right there, while asleep, was the moment I changed my opinion of Bernard.

How he was even allowed to stay around after trying to steal baffles me. I loved that they had a love story. It was sweet. But to stay because of a scoundrel who you met while he was stealing something because of you? I'm actually truly pissed that S told Aron that he would leave, but Aron kept him around long enough to kill him.

Aron.. way hotter. But i would have tamed him before he could knife me. Szabi was emotionally all over the place, and allowed Aron to become even more confused about himself and become quite vulnerable and sexually repressed. I also probably would have moved him into the big city for a few days and maybe eventually permanent if that town was to toxic for him.

Considering the ending, the choice seems obvious. Who wants to be knifed by your beloved? I get the impression Szabi feels drawn in, as if it were simply his fate to stay there and be with Aron.
