and just knew Jamie was going to be the one who slipped up.

I am curious how you knew that was going to happen?

I am a big fan of this musical, seen a few different productions, and this director's version was the most skewed I have seen. Mr. LaGravenese clearly felt the need to make Jamie a womanizer, when if you look at the script/source material, he is not. He did NOT cheat on Cathy just for sex, he was looking for companionship as he no longer had it with Cathy.

Also, ALL of the songs come from the original show. It is heavy, not lighthearted like most people think the genre generally is. I suggest listening to the soundtrack independent of the movie, blocking out what this director has shown you. Jason Robert Brown does a great job of telling you the story from the music alone (which essentially you can do in a bare bones production).

If there is ever a production of this musical around you, I suggest going. This is one of those shows that you can learn something each time you see it :)
