He Didn't Cheat On Her Until the Relationship was at the End

People on here keep talking about how he cheated on her - but remember - his story goes from beginning to end, at that song is almost at the very end. It was after he knew they were not going to make it. That doesn't make it okay, of course, because they were still married - but it's not like he was cheating on her and thinking (or even caring for that matter) that she wouldn't find out. The relationship was over. It was the end of the five years.

Yes, but it demonstrates that he never really loved her in the true sense. He "fell out of love" when he wasn't getting what he needed from the relationship instead of sticking with her to see how he could help her achieve happiness.

I think he tried everything he possibly could.
Don't get me wrong - at the very end I cry for them both. I hate that they lost what they had.... and I think both of them could have tried a little harder.

He still cheated on her WHILE they were still married. Before he had even left her. He's a piece of *beep* They made him so likable until he was cheating. Lol

Agreed! Also, when they first got married he sang the song, "A Miracle Would Happen" all about how all the other women around were such a huge temptation, making it seem like it was just SO HARD to be faithful. He couldn't keep his eyes from wandering. So, he didn't seem entirely devoted even in the beginning of their marriage. He just seemed like a horndog.

Technically the cheating would occur around the same time as the song "See I'm Smiling" since it is her second song and the cheating song is his second to last. Cathy is still trying at the point where he is cheating because she thinks it can still work. Yes, no matter what either does the relationship is probably over, but she is still trying.
