The dresses

If you look at how she is dressed throughout the whole movie, I believe they are trying to give a little more depth to the character and have her be someone who makes her own clothes and has her own style (which may be why Jamie was so attracted to her) which makes sense since she is a pretty unsuccessful actress and doesn't make much money doing that, so making her own clothes is cheaper than buying new ones.
