Speculation time!

i like this idea that we'll probably see whoever is watching the tapes down the line.

Now that a time travel door is in play, literally ANYBODY could be watching those tapes--well after VHS was invented and mainstream obviously.

But I like the idea of a protagonist/s watching the tapes to get a good idea of how to attack the coven/Toby and end everything once and for all.

I'm rewatching this series now and there are throwaway lines to time travel stuff, i'm just in amazement.

I'm REALLY stoked to see where they go with this?

The golden age of post-adolescent weeknd carelessness is now.

Definitely, this is a very intriguing part. It would be good if it was a protagonist watching. Can't wait to see what happens.

In the third when Dennis is talking to his assistant in one of their convos, they discuss Back to the Future. They debate on what it's title should have been.

In the fourth one, Robbie has a spoon that can tell the future.

Oh okay yeah true. Good catch.

Also i don't think they were talking about back to the future the film if that's what you mean. After Julie started talking to them one of them obviously said ' back to the past', meaning let's get back to what we were doing. They then started debating whether that is the right phrase, or should it be 'let's get back to present' or 'let's get back to the past'.

I don't think anyone is. The first and second I assumed to be police property (since it had the "disclaimers" at the end). Part 3,4 and TMO look to be property of the coven now. It would be kind of weird if some random person had them.

maybe a cop watched 1 and 2 in the police archives, then broke into the coven and took the other tapes. the series could end with someone like that hunting them down and this is them researching before the final battle

anyone who see's TMO video would see the box of tapes that exists and possibly where to find them, unless theyve been moved...but would TMO footage have been found at katie's years before it ever happens, due to the time portal?

It turns out, the OP was correct; the tapes play a critical role in Ghost Dimension. Also, time-travel comes back in GD as well.
