Question about demons

If a demon's goal is to become part of the world, why would it waste time terrorizing random people and making them want to try to stop it? Wouldn't it be smarter to just leave those people alone? Or even to just talk to them as well, and make a deal with them? The thing has the power to time travel and the strength of Superman so I'm sure it has something good it can offer in return for helping it. The way that demons in these movies (and pretty much all other movies) operate doesn't make any sense.

The Demons can see the future, but time travel is debatable because it's likely not possible without human hosts like Katie or Kristi who had supernatural 'abilities' which allowed them to create the doorway through time and going through those 'trance' states which allowed them to see through Toby's eyes, these supernatural abilities which allow Toby to be sent through time from past to future are further explained in the deleted scenes, and it's revealed in the movie when Leila plays Bloody Mary with Katie and Kristi on the other side that the game can be used to open 'doors' through time, allowing them to open the doorway to Leila's bedroom, make sense?

And even though the time travel took place in 1992-2013, I think it was a sort of time dilation effect, if that also makes any sense...

The Demons are incredibly powerful but it comes in phases, in order to gain more power which allows them to interact with the families is to make them acknowledge it, draw attention and eventually fear from them, and overtime it grows in strength and size, their reality is a very limited one full of blockages and barriers which prevent them from reaching the peak of their strength immediately, that's just how it works.

I don't believe the Demons can just make 'deals' with them voluntarily, the reason Toby was even there was because he was summoned from Hell by the Coven Witches to make the deal, had it not happened he would of been in Hell still ...at least that's how it was portrayed in Paranormal Activity 2, 3 and 4, perhaps Ghost Dimension wasn't a complete canon depiction of the Mythology.... that's what happens when you pick the movie's editor to be the director when he probably didn't even know the basics, but we can at least admit it had it's moments and tried to wrap everything up, almost.

Ah, I didn't see 2, 3, or 4, I only saw 1, 5, and 6. It's all one long continuation of the same story? 5 seemed like it was only tied in as an afterthought so I assumed the rest didn't connect either.

The reason I mentioned making deals is because it definitely looked like Toby could speak to Leila and even hold actual conversations with her. In all of the scenes when she was talking to him, it sounded like one of those one-sided phone conversations where the other person (Toby) was obviously speaking as well and you just couldn't hear what he was saying. So if he makes himself visible to her and speaks to her, why does he make himself invisible and try to hide from everyone else?

In every ghost movie it just seems like the ghosts and demons etc all go about things in the most inefficient way possible. I mean if a demon appeared in my house and said "hey, help me manifest a body, and in return I'll make you really strong and give you my ability to transform into a black mist and fly around" I'd definitely help it. But if it just creeps around scaring people and randomly tries to kill off my friends, then of course I'm gonna do everything I can to prevent it from achieving its goal.

You never saw 2, 3, or 4? Wow, no wonder your confused, you should watch them, they're as good as the first, well 4 comes at a close second, but still part of it.

The Mythology wasn't held very well due to the absence of Chris Landon in the development of Ghost Dimension
but I think it's because Toby's energy can only be seen and heard by young children and animals, and it wouldn't be smart if Toby showed his true colours to the children when he just met them, right? that's also part of the reason why he told them his name is Toby,
that's something that you would call your imaginary friend, and he befriended them in the same nature as an imaginary friend, but we've also seen that Toby has no patience.

This is a common trait of Horror Movie Paranormal/Demonic occurrences.

Well even though no one except for the children and animals couldn't see or hear him, Toby's presence was heard and known through physical interaction with their world.

And I think they were able to 'feel' him as well, like that feeling of someone watching you or 'around' you, Toby would of needed to hide his negative nature to the children before he could gain their trust, once Kristi refused to do what he told her and said
'I don't want to talk to you anymore' Toby was done and attacked her.

The next day Kristi had a high fever which was likely caused by Toby inflicting his negative energy onto her, AND he threatened to harm Katie if she refused.

And related to Toby's speech, It's possible that he communicates in a way that is completely different to humans, I noticed something in the movie that could help answer your question, the first night when Kristi gets up to talk to Toby,
you can hear high pitched ringing in the background, and as it gets louder Kristi tells him to be quiet otherwise he'll wake Katie up. Maybe he communicates through different vibrations and frequencies that are only perceivable through small children and animals, Katie was older than Kristi, so she likely wasn't able to see or hear him, just like the adults.

reply

Cool, I'll watch 2, 3, and 4 then.

What do you think could explain why only children and animals can perceive him directly? Just bigger imagination, adults have learned to shut out things like that, etc; or is there a better explanation offered?

Also, what do you mean by "negative nature"? If this is explained in the other movies just let me know instead of spoiling it and I'll see it when I watch them, but I'm just curious what makes him "negative." In Ghost Dimension it seemed like his only goal was to create a physical body so he could live in the world rather than floating around doing nothing all the time, and he only did negative things to people who tried to stop him, which from his point of view is pretty understandable.

reply

Yes, I think that's definitely apart of it.

This is explained in the other movies.

Ha ha, yeah... you really need to watch the others, that's all I'm going to say.

wtf??

why does the demon kill the rest of the families? why if the portal opened once..she came back once they already had her? why is the child not afraid of the demon?? if it looked like that id be terrified. does it make itself look like a kid? was she talking/playing with the kids from the other side all the other scenes shes talking to herself like with imaginary friends? where were the adults from the very beginning? in the house at the end it was just the two girls.. not even Hunter. if she was apart of this whole thing because of her bday...howcome stuff only starts happening because of a "spirit" camera when its not even a spirit its a demon. if it needs kids born on that day wouldnt it just be able to get to that kid? im sorry but this movie was a mess, as is all the others but the first. they just make all this stupid shi* up so that it makes sense why there is a camera in all of them. why even call it the ghost dimension when its a demon in all of them? if they could supposedly see into lee's time/space, the demon friends with her somehow?? were playing games with her, whatever, none of it really has a solid explanation, then they easily could have just stolen Lee. the end. and i get it then there wouldnt be a movie but howbout making the movie make sense and giving better explanations/story telling as to why all the creepy stuff is happening and in that order and why things have to happen the way it does. to me it just seems like a bunch of random crap thrown together to explain why it has to be filmed. this movie was sort of creepy at parts, and it was watchable. but its a mess. its too complicated for its own good... and when it kinda did have a flow going and a cool explanation they ruin it with poor execution. there is no reason theyd have to kill all the parents, and keep all the kids once they become human. and if there is a reason then explainnnn ittt. it doesnt make it creepier by not explaning it just makes it frustrating. im done with these paranormal activity movies. the first one was rad, the second was OK, the rest are jokes....this one is a mess.

reply

First I'll have to strongly disagree to your opinion that 2 was okay and 3 to 4 were jokes, I mean 4 wasn't as good as the first ones, but it's incomparable with GD, but anyway.

Yes, I agree with everything, and one thing you forgot was the fact that Toby was in 1992 in human form, but if he reached human form in 1992, the other movies where he's invisible and unseen can't happen because he's HUMAN!

The only things that TRIED to connect it with the others were Hunter, Katie and Kristi, Coven, but it's just the mere names, the Mythology that includes Lois making a deal with Toby to gain wealth and fortune in exchange for the first-born male or the ritual that needed Hunter to sacrifice Alex to prove himself to Toby, the ending of 3 where the girls minds are wiped and replaced with memories of their house burning down and seeing dark shadow at the foot of their beds, one second before the credits you can see the house burning down so it did happen, but not in the way they remembered it.

I hope it ends Gregory Plotkin's career, he screwed with us fans BIG TIME.

if a demon appeared in my house, i would get any and all Christian artifacts, Bibles, crosses, etc. to send it back to Hell!! I wouldn't EVEN, not even for a second, to help it. A demon is never good. It will always be deceitful. You could NEVER believe it! If you make a deal with it, you are hellbound!! It will take you to Hell, unless you destroy it.

demons cant see the future but can figure out likely events. If it could see the future, why did it let its self get exorcised from Kristi?
It does all that stuff because it loathes mankind and its a d1ck

This is a very insightful comment I rarely see anyone touch on.

Of course, if we as mere mortals were to come face to face with the real devil, it would have the effect of driving us to the other side.

Something that is repellent will not be found attractive. Something that deceives into appearing as something attractive is the much better course for accomplishing what demons are here to do.

Demons are a part of the world. Their goal is the make the world, and human affairs, as much a part of their world before our time is up.

Think subtlety, not "in your face" aggression. Therefore they are much more effective as the man behind the curtain than revealing themselves as they do in the typical Hollywood production.
