Why aren't movies like this more popular?

There are supposed to be so many Christians in the US. In fact, most Christians will refer to the US as a Christian country. You would think that there would be more Christian movies and that the Christian movies that are made would be more popular. But, that isn't the case.

There is no shortage of stories in the bible that could be made into movies - and a lot of those stories have the potential for sex, violence and CGI special effects. Just like comic book movies. Is it possible that Christians in the US exaggerate their importance?

"Christian" movies are pretty popular - not with me, but with a lot of people. For example, Miracles from Heaven did pretty well at the box office. So did Noah, and you don't have to go too far back to find major Christian blockbusters.

This movie watered down the religion to try to be an action movie, and as a result, it failed miserably as both a Christian movie and a regular movie. Heck, it even failed as a "bad Nicolas Cage movie".

Not every Christian automatically likes Christian films. Many Christian films over the past few years have been, in my opinion, very annoying, stupid, petty, self-pitying, or worse judgemental. In the case of LEFT BEHIND (2014), I'd say it's because the film is boring. They toned down the religious aspects to appeal to a wider audience, when they probably should have done the complete opposite. Embrace the absurdity, and have fun. They're clearly taking the subject matter way too seriously.

I would love to see more of that. Especially based on the Book of Revelations. I can't even count the amount of films about the Birth and Death of Jesus, and for the life of me can't think of one single film in which Jesus and Satan battle on a post-apocalyptic Earth. Perhaps they're aiming for family friendly films, or maybe it's a budget concern. It's also possible the fund-raisers consider the idea belittling to Christianity.

CLASH OF THE TITANS, GODS OF EGYPT and hell even Marvel's THOR are all inspired by what were once considered mainstream religions. Now-a-days people look at those stories as nothing more than goofy fairy tales adapted into mindless Hollywood schlock. I wonder how long before Jesus falls into that category. Imagine Jesus being an Avenger, and you'll see what I'm getting at.

I suspect. But then again all religions do that.

They are making money otherwise they wouldn't be so many, what i really want to know is why 99% of Christian movis are so freaking bad?

The movie was really badly made and acted, it just reeked of "Uwe Boll quality", so I didn't watch the whole thing.

I really enjoyed the movie The Rapture with Mimi Rogers.
I didn't go into it thinking about a religious film, it was just an interesting film.
After watching it, I didn't feel any different about my personal religious convictions, I just thought it was entertaining.

Because they are terrible.

Also the religious always react poorly to films that try to convey a Christian message because no Christian can agree with one another on the details of that message. For example, some Christians are angry because a lady with Alzheimer’s was left behind Because they don’t have the mental capacity to understand salvation. There are about a million details like that which make them angry.
