If this movie brings at least 1 person to Christ, then it's a good thing

This flick has tons of negative reviews from professional, non-professional, Christian and Non-Christian film critics and movie buffs, the thing is when it comes to a storyline like this the main point is that it brings lost souls to Christ Jesus.

Regardless of the terrible performances, if 1 person at the minimum has gotten saved because they watched this movie, then it's a good thing that this motion picture was made.

It depends on which Christ.. According to the bible Antichrist will come at the 6th while the true Christ doesn't return until the 7th. Anti in the Greek means "instead of" He will be here pretending to be the real messiah. Most of the world will believe him. That's why movies like this are so dangerous in that they set people up for the great deception that is coming. This is why Christ says he comes at an hour most do not expect.

Who has ever become born again Christian after watching a bad movie? This movie doesn't even inspire emotional guilt like THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST has.

Lol it was an entertaining film about a fictional event.

Why would this movie 'bring people to Christ'? And will it actually cause more Christians to lose their faith because they watch the film and come to see Christian beliefs as ridiculous?

reply

This entire thread displays a pretty arrogant attitude. Why do people have to be brought to Christ? Can't they just believe and worship as they see fit?

reply

The Rapture is not mainstream Christianity as presented in this movie, it is Christian fundamentalism. This is a fundamentalist doomsday movie, not a mainstream Christian movie. Obviously you can expect people of this observation to write in the comments (although that was probably back in IMDB). Fundamentalist movies are almost always about the "rapture/armageddon/end of the world" or sometimes about something from the old testament, like Noah's ark and Jonah, that kind of subject.
There are many movies with Christian themes which are not seen as Christian movies as such, such as the Body (2001) and the Prophecy(1995), while the movies described as "Christian" are typically fundamentalist movies like this one, which are made with the sole purpose of promoting this kind of Christianity.

It's just disrespectful and arrogant of some Christians to treat people of other beliefs/non-beliefs that they are the ones who souls need to be saved and need to be converted to their way of thinking. Especially when they don't have any actual evidence (aside from faith which is unreliable) that God even exists. I saw the Cinematic Excrement episode of this film (haven't suffered through the actual film however) and I remember a scene where this mother tells her daughter "I want you to be ready" (for when the rapture comes) and basically talks down to her daughter as if she's not living her life the right way (meaning being a christian as if that is the only correct way to live your life). I have family who talk to me that way as well and it makes me really uncomfortable and I find it rude.

Because Christians are told in the bible that they need to spread the word of God so more people are saved. It has nothing to do with being arrogant. Every "Christian" will be judged anyway, and not every "Christian" will be saved since there are a lot of wolves in sheep´s clothing. I do agree with you about the movie though, it was a total dumpster fire.

reply

Nah, have to disagree.
I like people who lead by example (like Amish) and don't try to hammer us with ridiculous scenarios we are supposed to gulp and wonder at. Just quietly live your faith, shed light when you can, and respect that other people have enough sense to figure things out for themselves.
I've always imagined if Jesus came to Earth he'd walk up to me and say - I like you way better than these worthless sycophants. Let's go get a beer !

reply

By scaring them into Christianity? That’s what you want?

reply

The only good thing about this movie is there is no Kirk Cameron. That dude is a nutcase. And no, people are not going to "find christ" after watching this or any movie. He's nowhere to be found, Sug.

reply

Well I rented the Blu-ray from one of the few video stores left and the guy who rang me up had long hair and a beard, so I think I did find Christ. Need more proof - he went outside to get returns out of the drop box while it was raining, so water was all over the pavement. He walked right on top of that no problem!

reply

A guy in a beard walked through a puddle???? And that proves that a guy rose from the dead?

You have very weird standards of evidence.

reply

moon is obviously being sarcastic. but I think the funniest thing is that's actually about the same standard christians have for their beliefs

reply

OK cool, what's very sad though is considering the Theists I have spoken to that sounds exactly like something they would say.

reply

You also replied to a post I made in a James Bond thread where you took seriously what I said that I thought was obviously tongue in cheek so I’m working under the assumption that you’re an Android or possibly some type of silicon based life form with a brain structure unsuited to processing the humor of us carbon based creatures.

reply

It’s more along the lines that it’s impossible to detect sarcasm from written words , especially when so many people on the internet make absurd remarks and mean them

reply

Those are the very people I’m poking fun at. I just try to take the absurdity to another level so it doesn’t get mistaken for a serious post.

reply

I understand what you are doing, but I have heard theists make statements that are equally absurd (I exist so therefore God exists, the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics proves God, a banana proves God's existence, etc.) which is why it was not clear that you were being sarcastic.
